JUst my two cents - may be off topic a bit..... I liked my e34l's better than my kt77's in my OR 80 FWIW. Kinda same conclusion Tesla came up with.

Think I might have linked to this thread recently. Still an old thread though.
FWIW the OR80/120 and R.30 power sections are different enough technically that you can't really compare them too closely. Both fantastic things to have and use of course!

I love KT77's in Marshalls, I'd probably be in agreement with you on them in an Orange (I don't own an Orange yet), Oranges being on the darker side to begin with, KT77 would only darken it further. Great tubes for a Marshall though since most of those amps are so bright.nlimbaugh wrote:JUst my two cents - may be off topic a bit..... I liked my e34l's better than my kt77's in my OR 80 FWIW. Hey nlimbaugh don't mind Andy he's one of our "special" members, he rides the short bus if you know what I mean.

Re: What power tubes do you guys use in your R30?
a timely thread for me as I've had a r30 for 2 months and I'm ready to play around with some new tubes. I really like the amp, my only criticism is that its not very loud for 30 watts. perhaps the tungsols that it came with have a lot of miles on them, I know not. thinking of trying the TAD cryoseal El34.

Actually it is loud for being a 30W amp! On the dirty channel. The 'natural' isn't that loud though, especially with single coils.onetracker wrote:a timely thread for me as I've had a r30 for 2 months and I'm ready to play around with some new tubes. +1. Exceptionally loud 30 watter. Sounds like new power valves may indeed be needed.
Natural channel can also get louder (clean or dirty) with a clean boost like the humble MXR Micro Amp a few of us use for that.

No experience of the Tad but I did like tungsol preamp tubes and ehx power tubes in mine.

Re: What power tubes do you guys use in your R30?
well my rocker 30 isn't very loud. I mean, don't get me wrong, it shakes the walls. my th30 and fuchs blackjack are both noticeably louder.
so i'll be swapping out the power tubes - for years I've used mullards and tung sols but lately I've been using TAD's (6l6 and 6v6) and am pretty happy with them so for the r30 I've just ordered TAD Kt77's and when I get'em broken in i'll share the results.
wow - this IS an old resurrected thread.
thanks all

installed the TAD's yesterday - they are El34b's - cryosets. I worked 'em out for about 4 hours ...well more like 6. they seem a fair bit louder than the tung sols but those might have had some miles on them. didn't work the clean channel yet. as far as the tone goes: I'm noticing more punch, richer harmonics and transparency. recommended.

Re: What power tubes do you guys use in your R30?
I tried a bunch of tubes in my TV50 and settled on GT EL34M, they are noticeably smoother than any other of the power tubes I tried. I bet they'd be good in a R30.
Re: What power tubes do you guys use in your R30?
I have JJ E34L's I had chinese el34's before getting the JJ's. I did not notice much difference. I just know the amp sounds great. I do not think that you can make the rocker 30 sound bad.
