Anyone ever used this tuning?

Post by cica1066 » Wed Aug 24, 2011 2:04 pm

CGDAEG low to high. i found out about it when looking into king crimson's guitarist robert fripp apparently he uses it all the time and calls it "new standard tuning". dont realy want to try it atm with old strings and that high g i'm pretty sure would break my .11 string. Just curious if anyone here has used it and why they did?

You saying they tuned to a higher pitch? Surely it was dropped?

I haven't used the tuning, but if I did, I would put a .56 on the low E string to tune down to C and an .08 on the top E string to tune up to G. That B string tuned up to E would probably require a different gauge also.

Never tried it myself, but listen to the California Guitar Trio, I believe they use that tuning on most of their recordings. As well as Mr Fripp.

Interesting. Can't say I've ever tried it out, but I might give it a whirl. I'd have thought they'd use mostly dropped tunings.

Great band. Apparently one of Mr Adam Jones' biggest influences. I can hear them in Tool, definitely.

I do it all the time, minus the high G.

I used to have more Orange stuff. Now I just have a PPC412 (black), and a Micro Crush.
