dolly board

Post by dbsens03 » Sun Aug 07, 2011 6:18 pm

I'm looking to get a dolly board to move my amp around more easily. what do you guys use? i'd like one with locking casters but that's not a deal breaker. this carvin one looks good. and it's cheap. or maybe they all are. thanks!

Never used a dolly board myself, as most of the venues in my area have stair cases which almost render them useless :( I would think by the time you factor in shipping and the purchase price you could make one yourself cheaper. As it is basically a piece of wood cut to measure, with four casters screwed on to the bottom of the board, the carpet would be nice as it add an anti slip factor, but if you put some carpet or non slip surface on top of a piece of wood you would basically have the same effect. Just thiking out loud on how you could get away with building one cheaply that is practical for your needs.

But I can see why they would be a valuable addition to your rig. I know most guys buy the flight cases and then leave them in the bottom part of the flight case, as they have casters on them, but this also brings up the price for a transport device, but you get the comfort of knowing your gear is in a solid locked case when not in use.

Fairly simple to make one with a trip to the hardware store. If you don't have saws, usually they can cut wood to size for you. Add casters and staple on a covering.

I suppose the $39 for the Carvin one isn't so bad. And I don't have to worry about shipping since there are 2 Carvin store's within 90 minutes of me. Thanks guys!

My local hardware store sells 1000-pound rated furniture dollies for $7.99. I don't know why anybody would pay much more for something like that.

I used to have more Orange stuff. Now I just have a PPC412 (black), and a Micro Crush.

question is, are you looking for something to transport your amp from car to stage, or just around stage? if you want to make overall transporting easier, check out the Magna Cart. my friend's used one with his AC30 to great results. if you want some portability on stage, you might wanna try building one yourself. imo, that's the best idea.

I have my doubts about this "One-Trip" thing. Especially if your rig looks like this:

I'm guessing it belongs to the guy standing in the picture. He probably has to set up his own gear, since the roadies took one look at his rig and quit.

my favorite thing was my fold up hand truck from Home Depot, $20. I lost it at a show though, i think another band swiped it. It saved space and allowed me to wheel my my amp around easily.
