What should I add to the family: Tele or SG?
I am thinking of either getting a Tele or SG and I am on the fence ATM. I already have a Strat and Les Paul Studio. I am playing through an AD30HTC into a Mesa vertical cab with WGS Green Beret/Reaper.
Which should I get? What say you Orange Forum?

Although I would personally like a Tele with a humbucker in the neck position, if you already have a strat and an LP, the tele with single coils would be most different from what you already have and add a whole new color to your palette. A humbucker SG would not be that far from you LP. My second choice would be the SG with P90s.

Yep, that is true. That's why I am kind of leaning towards the Tele. Just wanted to get some more opinions. Thanks for the input!!Borderline Productions wrote:Although I would personally like a Tele with a humbucker in the neck position, if you already have a strat and an LP, the tele with single coils would be most different from what you already have and add a whole new color to your palette. SG of any kind without a doubt...not only are they the best guitars ever made, an Orange amp is like its soul mate . They should not be apart...

Re: What should I add to the family: Tele or SG?
tele, the sg's are cool as hell and i wish i could get on with em, but for me, the controls are too close together and they dont hang right on me. with the strap button on the back of the neck it makes them feel neck heavy too.
to be honest, i too am a strat/lp guy and i dont get on with the controls on the tele where they lie too well either. i'm looking to change my tele in the near future to more of a les paul layout, maybe having some 'clever' wireing options in there too.

I'd go for the tele with single coils. In my opinion the ad30htc sound way better with single coils. Every guitar with humbuckers I've tried through my ad30, I've absolutely hated the tone. Some are too muddy (tele with humbuckers) and others have way too much treble (epiphone dot with gibson 57s). If you were really set on an SG though, I'd try the special with the p90s.

sg with p90s hands down, my sg classic is so good to play, and sounds really good. As always though, just go to the music shop and give the tele and sg a go, we can only tell you our personal favourites

I know going to a shop is the best but I live where the shops suck, lol. No Gibson's at all and very very slim pickings on the Tele's. I have owned both and liked both (Tele w/ singles and SG w/ buckers), but I haven't played them through an Orange. I am really leaning more towards the Tele with singles or possibly P90's.howdy-doo wrote:sg with p90s hands down, my sg classic is so good to play, and sounds really good. Everyone needs a single coil Tele. I don't know how people function without one. How is this even a contest?

Also, I personally don't like the way SG's look or feel and we all know my opinion is the most valued on the forum.

I still don't know how I feel about those. Soap bar pickups, strat headstock, tint-less pale looking neck, 6 saddle bridge, 4 knobs, fat modern tuners, toggle switch on the top part of the body... it just feels so wrong.... yet it still looks kinda good.Randy Bass wrote:Black Dove Tele?
