You do have to wonder though whether Amy as a youngster growing up, saw some of them on that list as a role models.
Maybe she did. Kurt and Jim both were reckless as hell, and Jim Morrison fantasized about death all the time, and Kurt talked about killing himself all the time, and said something to the effect it's better to burn out than fade away or some crappola....Any way, it's like they embrace living fast and dying young. Not me, man. Look at Tony Iommi.......he's super cool and still going strong. That's the kind of rock star I want to be.
Sincerely,

That was Neil Young's line.

No way - it was Joe Elliott of Def Leppard
.
When exactly is Neil Young planning to burn out, by the way
?

Speaking of Neil Young (I could care less about Amy Winehouse, she was a crackhead, that's what happens to crackheads) here he is burning out on stage with Crazy Horse in 91. Be sure to check out all the awesome audience members.

Wow....guess I am getting really old...
Had no clue who she even was until this thread and facebook comments....
Very Sad indeed, but also not unexpected....
Have since listened to much of her music and must say a very excellent talented individual has once again
been destroyed by drugs and their inability to control themselves!

Yeah Neil young started that with the lyric, but Cobain said it too, i think in his suicide note. But yep, Neil Young, I bet he's abused a few over the years as well.

some people @ my location take this whole rock n roll thing too serious.
i mean they smoke 60 cigarettes a day and they drink so much it's insane.
accept darkness.

Yeah, it's a facade for a lot of people I know to. I know some that try wayy to hard to make it in "the business" too, and they just suck all of the fun out of just playing music. There is nothing wrong with being driven and having a work ethic, but it's pretty easy to spot the difference in my circle. I mean it's pretty evident if someone is talented enough to have a shot, or just putting on the extra show, and "acting like a rock star" and doing pointless crap in excess. I like the humble folks myself, who live by this adage. "Have a good time all the time" but having a good time all the time doesn't have to mean killing yourself by abusing either.
Sincerely,

re: drugs in music
Bill Hicks said it best:
"If you don't think drugs have done good things for us, then take all of the best records, tapes and CD's and burn them."

Must be hard being a kid today looking up to people like that and pete docherty.
So to me it was a happy day knowing my son won't see that loser when he grows up. Just wait for docherty now, can't be long really can it?

Ever listen to The Gaslight Anthem's "59 Sound?" There's a line in it:
"I was playing a show down the road
when your spirit left your body..."

Yeah it's really too bad that she had to die, I'm indifferent to her music but I wouldn't wish death upon her just because she liked to get high. A lot of my role models are users too but I can make my own decisions. A lot of you guys should take a look at yourselves and wonder what people will say when you pass.

People will say I worked hard, loved my family and was a good person. Not a alcoholic junkie with a criminal record for possession.
People who take drugs in my eyes are stupid. People who can't enjoy life for what it is. You control your own destiny and if your not happy in yourself/life then do something about it.
Life is for living don't waste it away taking junk to make it seem better.
People are so lazy to try and change there lives for the better so they take the easy way and mask is with drugs. I got out with my mates and can have a great time sober and drug free. Some of them take drugs and know my views and they take them as escapism cos they've got crsp paid jobs and wanna forget money issues but are unwilling/lazy to do anything about it.
Who here takes drugs not including social drinking?
Can I ask why?
