OT: What piece of gear do you hate the most?

Every single one of us knows of a certain piece of gear that will makes us cringe if we every see someone gig with it. What is that piece of gear that raises the hair on your back? (I am prepared to see a lot of Bad Monkeys... haha)

Mine is the BBE Sonic Maximizer. IMO it is a knob that just makes your amp sound thin and brittle the more you turn it up. The bypass also sounds terrible so it makes you think that your amp sounds better when the pedal is engaged. Most people that have one refer to it as "taking the blanket off of your speakers". The pedal makes me sick.

Where do I start? Okay, here:

- Any ridiculously pointy guitar (see warlock)
- Cheap distortion pedals (see DOD Grunge)
- Mesa Rectumfryers (as a former owner, I have a personal vendetta against the cleans)
- Any digital modeling type amp (see Line 6 Spider)
- Robot guitars (sorry guys, I just don't get it)
- anything designed for scooped mids/bad metal (see solid state guitar amps)

I'll go with the Talk Box since most people don't know how to use them tastefully. They can get very annoying if used too long or too often, especially if added to cover songs that didn't originally have them.

I don't think there IS a good way to use it.. it's an annoying piece of gear, period. Just like auto-tune, it's just awful no matter how you use it.

They are great for low volume practice where you can't open up the amp but can imagine becomes more useless at high volume

Well the Zoom 505 put me off their products for life. (Maybe unfair, maybe they have improverd but anyway...) Really nasty distortion sounds (and I don't mean that in a good way!), one of which, because the patch was programmed at a much higher level then the rest I was flipping through, managed to blow the stock speaker in my Fender Pro Junior. BLEH!

Apart from that I see that Antares have just brought out a guitar version of their Autotune. Seeing as I loathe the (over) use of that on vocals (thanks Cher, see what you started!) I think I'll maybe just have to hate that one on principle!

Any piece of gear being used by a useless musician - i think that annoys me more than any piece of gear on its own.

there is this one guy who comes from my home town and he plays a one man acoustic cover song thingy(think of a dude who plays the goo goo dolls, damien rice, and other forgettable sh*t but without any basic knowledge of rhythm) so the story goes that he approached some of the towns better players and said he was going to play the cork jazz festival. the lads asked what jazz he was going to play his reply; Oh! im just going to play the normal set but ill "jazz it up a bit"

needless to say he didnt end up playing at the cork jazz festival but it seems it didnt dent his confidence and he still croons around the place which i still find unbelievable - rant over (apologies)

Boss Metalzone. 3-4 times we've played with other bands using one through old fenders and ac30's which probably belonged to their parents. The amps were older than the kids using them. Just horrific.

Also dislike noise gates/suppressors but they are a necessary evil for me unfortunately.
