Which is more versatile? AD30TC or RV50?
Moderator: bclaire
well it really depends on how heavy you want to get because the rv is made to get heavier tones. also the RV has a designated clean side while the ad30 has two channels that are the same or very close I'm not quite sure. yoru going to have to play them and see which you dig more. I don't play either myself but have played both and if it were me I would go for the AD30TC

The Rockerverb has a wider range of sounds (ie. more gain on tap), and more features such as an FX loop if that's what you mean, but both its basic tone, and that of the AD30 are different. I play an AD30 as I prefer its basic tone to the RV, but other guys like it the other way around.
For me, the amp tone is the basis of my sound. I then build on top of it using various guitars & pedals etc.
Certainly both amps will cover the range of sounds that you want "in the box" as it were... it's just up to you to decide which basic sound you prefer.

It depends on how you like to play and what "versatility" means to you. If you find amps more versatile if they respond dramatically to changes in guitar volume and pick attack, you might find the AD30TC more versatile. If you find having two very clearly different sounds from one amp as making it more "versatile" then you may find the Rockerverb more versatile. Same for an effects loop and reverb--if you think amps that have these features are more versitle, then the Rockerverb's better suit your definition of versatile.
Ultimately, they both sound a bit different...they're voiced a bit differently so it'll probably be much MUCH better if you can hear them for yourself to so if you prefer the sound of one over the other. Also, FWIW, IMO, a really good player will be able to play jazz, funk, hard rock, country, whatever from either of these and be quite convincing. But if you're looking mostly for thicker, heavier tones, the RVs do have notably more gain on tap...

Thanks for the reply everyone!
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and there is a dealer down in San Francisco so maybe I'll try to stop by in a few days. I'll keep what all of you said in mind.
I tried the Zinky Superfly out recently and that thing can do anything you want it to. It has some problems with it too though. One obviously is that it's too expensive for my pay and the second, it's too big and heavy. That thing weighs a ton!!! Gigging with it isn't too ideal. The features are nice though. Maybe there's too much feature for my taste.
Thanks again to you all for helping me make my decision.

An amp is only as versatile as the player. If you are able to convincingly play different styles, either of the two would suit you. The ony limitation is that the AD series simply does not go to the gain regions that the Rockerverb does, so if you want a high gain tone your decision should be easy. If not, then play both and decide, best of luck.
