I agree with those who say preamp valves, especially as you say it sounds fine from the loop return.
Its a good idea to carry a spare set anyway. I've had a few fail on me recently.
Doesn't look like flux to me or my brother, but you may be right. It's difficult to capture with a phone camera that close to be honest :)

I'm definitely going to try changing the preamp tubes one way or the other.

agreed but, don't try do modern metal on it ;) it just doesn't work out well, it doesn't sound natural.... it's almost like your getting a bear and putting a muzzle on it and then shaving it's fur, cutting it's claws, removing it's teeth and then expecting to go hunt for food and survive by itself. whereas if you get an amp designed for the job it will sound natural and everything. It wasn't the amps fault for not doing modern metal, it was my fault for choosing the wrong amp for the job

This has to be the worst analogy I've ever heard

I been workin' on gettin' some teeth. They's expensive though. Also, I let the fur grow back in the winter  .

With the right pedal*, you can make your TH30 sound like a double-tracked Engl Savage.

I find the clean channel pretty fat, even with my tele/jag, lots of chime and detail in the high end though, its a lovely clean.

Though i found it had this really upper mid nasaly bump when I ran a distortion pedal through it (Barber Dirty Bomb), which sounded awesome on my Laney VC30. No problem, sold the pedal and now i just used the Dirty channel with an OD.

The dirty channel is dark, but it has a bit of fuzzyness and hair in the higher frequencies, but thats how oranges sound.

The shape control should IMO, never go past 3oclock, 11-1 is the sweet spot.
