Well, if we're not strictly talking about music anymore, I've never understood the popularity of sodomy  .

I've never understood the popularity of randomly capitalising words in a subject's title for dramatic effect :P

I like to think of myself as someone who looks for positives generally...
But as someone earlier said this should be taken as a bit of fun.
So I read upto page 3 and still found no mention yet of Eric Clapton

Beatles still the number one band of all time for me and I hated Oasis for attempting to copy them and generally been the biggest d##ks ever..

Never got Bee Gees, Punk (with the exception of Ruts and Ruts DC who had an truely mesmerisingly AWESOME drummer), Abba, Culture Club ( and generally all that other 80's pop sh#te) Boy Bands, Girl Bands (then again ) and now this new phenomena the XFactor generation.
Paul.

Bob Dylan. Seriously, this guy is the most overrated musician in history.

I heard 3 people the other day request some Chemical Brothers song.

When it came on, I couldn't believe how average it was. Wtf?

i think guns - as pieces of industrial design - are incredibly awesome

it's just that generally people who own them and/or champion them politically tend to be a couple of sadnwiches short of a picnic :)

Well, I can say that I get the Dead on a lot of levels and have a lot of respect for them and like a good chunk of their music. There's a lot of subtlety there that gets lost in the mix if you're not tuned completely into it. It's not the end all be all for me as it is for many and I can certainly understand not being into it, but that doesn't make me a bad musician. Whoever posted that is an idiot. Back in the day I was definitely a Phish-head too and still listen to them now and again. Their live shows back then were just blistering, intense, with improvs that were so creative. Much of it is dark and complex contrasted with light and lilting melodies. Trey has composed for orchestra and is influenced by a lot of orchestral music as well. Dave Matthews, I still listen to a lot and enjoy. They're a great band with great songs that also put on incredible live shows. These three bands are in, almost all respects, completely dissimilar. The crowds smell the same (B.O., patchouli, and weed). I got into a lot of other music listening to these guys first and going backwards through jazz, African, Latin, avant garde, electronic, orchestral, etc.

There's lots of music I choose not to listen to, but don't go out of my way to hate. For instance, I've never really gotten most punk. I can understand the ethos, the passion, the drive, the innovation, but I just don't find it listenable.

Sure, I don't completely understand why Lady Gaga and everything similar backwards and forwards in time, is so popular, but what it really comes down to is: if a parade comes through your back yard, are you going to look? Most people will. But I will argue it has nothing to do with music.

To cap off this obnoxiously long post, the thing that initially annoyed me about this thread's premise, was that it didn't spark a real conversation about understanding music. People just posting about why they think something sucks is just lame. Yet since this thing is now 7 pages and counting, so it can't be all bad.

Later-day Fleetwood Mac.
They were great in the late 60s. But when Peter Green left and Stevie Nicks joined, it went downhill.
I think Oh Well is their greatest song. It's kinda underrated. It has a great riff and good lyrics. It's one of my favorite songs.
