too barebones for my tastes. You can get a used SG Classic for 600$, and it has a full nitro finish, bound neck, full headstock w/ MOP logo, and dual P90 pickups.
+1
The SG Classic is a much better guitar for not much more money. At least Gibson did something different and affordable instead of awful and expensive (Firebird X, I'm looking at you).
+1 again. The blue MM / SG is pretty, but I can't get on without a tone knob. I'm not one who relies purely on pedal punching for my tones / sounds. I need to be able to tweak them from the guitar.
That P.90 SG Classic would get my vote every single time. It isn't (just) the double pickups, it is the double controls per pickup.
Still, if Gibson put out a decently built guitar for good money (as they sometimes can) then within its limitations it should be fine. I think that anyone used to tweaking everything from the gutiar is going to steer clear though...

+1 on this. My first instinct was that I'd have to make the volume a push/pull volume with a bright (regular) and dark setting.

I LOVE the white MM SG! I'm very tempted to move my volume knob to that exact spot! That's one thing about my SG Standard - I never use tone knobs (mine are disconnected) and have a hell of a time getting to the volume knob easy while playing.
Amazon has these for $539.... I'd love to try one out.

I dont think putting the SG classic and the MM together really fits. There is almost a $500 price difference.
I also have never heard of gibson making a guitar that is not Nitro finish. Have they?
The new 60s tribute would be a closer priced upgrade at a $270 price difference.
I also wish it had a tone knob.
But for a dedicated live machine. The SG or paul shape with a really nice PAF would be awesome.
No frills just rock it!

HA HA + A MILLION
That volume knob would get in my way too i'm certain....useful if you want to do the old Andy Latimer volume envelope effect thing... but I agree a very sensible line from Gibson.
Paul.

Just seen the explorer is £419, don't do this to me Gibson! I don't have much money as is!

I still think this at $1,100 is the best thing they are doing at present.

How about one with only a neck pickup? Then I might consider it.
Neil, from your signature we now know who mothered the twins, but where did the baby come from? Did I miss something?

You see, when a man and a woman love each other, sometimes they will go online and order a baby from China
