New amp - what a bargain!!!!

Post by Les Paul Lover » Mon Apr 04, 2011 6:35 am

I'm so chuffed!!!

This ebay seller did all the wrong thins - stock pics, vague description, no postage and pick up only....
When you live in a small town, it seriously affects your chances to sell..... and results in a great bargain to me!!!!!

So, what do we have here???

Ooohh!

Absolutely mint!!!! Got it for £130 too - the owner told me he bought it on a whim, turned it on 8 times in 2 years... And here I come!!!! Mine, all mine!!!!

There actually is one flaw....

Can you see that white spot next to the volume knob? That's it. Yeap. Its only sign that it may have been used before!!

It's so tiny too! 14" by 12". Miniscule foot print! And you can see the sorry spot My RV50 has had to live in for the last 7 month - very sad. Can't wait to get new house, should move in less than 3 weeks.

That thing looks tiny, but packs a good punch. Haven't had much time with it yet, was away all weekend, but it sounds very nice, breaks up beautifully, I'm so glad I got it. I will report more later on, I'll try it more tonight after work.

It does break up early, is reasonnably loud, but you can still get dirty cleans at 3 or 4 on volume dial with my LP - I'm sure it'll stay clean up to 5 with my strat though.

Can't wait to try it out with the PPC212 too.....

Thanks guys -do get one if the opportunity arises!!!

Blimey, been playing it some more - that thing seriously kicks arse!!!!!!!!!

It really doesn't like staying clean much either..... LP or strat, by 2 and 3 respectively on the volume dial, it's breaking up beautifuly!!!!

Maxed it, the overdrive stops just short of creamy overdrive - I'll try to see of my compressor (old 80's guyatone, does clean boost) boosts it there - if not I'm pretty sure the danelectro cool cat CTO2 I;ve got will do it.

It's a pretty cool rock machine that little amp - LP or strat, it sound really nice, and I do like the speaker too - I won't be changing it.

I've never named an amp.... I might yet call that one little ****..... Doesn't look much, tiny winy, but punches way above its weight for sure.... Massive rock tone, and will do blues to - just not really clean, not high gain. LOVE IT!!!!!

Great little box of fun that thingy! Nice to be able to drive an amp in natural overdrive without shaking the walls a la rockerverb.....

Well bought indeed  . If you like it with the G10N-40, wait until you play it through your 2x12. It sounds much better through good speakers. At the price you paid, you could put a 10" Greenback or Vintage 10 in there and still come out ahead.

Thanks randy!!!

I'm about to plug it in in my PPC212 - will know more about the stock speaker then. :D

What's wrong with the G10-40? How would a 10" greenback sound different?

I thought the G10N-40 was too trebly, even for a 10" speaker. It does not have nearly enough mids to be paired with an Orange IMO. In fairness, I am only assuming that the 10" Greenback would be better since I haven't tried it. However, I played the AD5 through the stock speaker and then through a PPC-412LTD and the improvement was huge. I would hope that the Vintage and Greenback 10" models are good based on their price and specs. I have been very impressed with my G10L-35s and surprisingly by some G10C-30s that I bought recently.

Oh my...!!!!

Just tried it through the PPC212 (V30 then), when pushed the creamy overdrive is at hand - not liquid fire like the RV can do (words to desribe overdrive??? hope you guys see what I mean).

I am sooooo impressed by this little beast - no wonder they called the tiny terror like that - my ad5 wil either be called little brute, little f*cker or something adequately apt for what it is.

Got to admit it does love a bigger speaker (or 2..... ;)), but even on its own, I;m blown away!!!!!

How about the Dwarfish Dollywagger?

I think I might stick with little f*cker...... suits that AD5 like a glove.....

Ive had so much fun with it yesterday!
Its jus breaking tone is beautiful, and it begs being driven hard!

I like the stock speaker in some respects, but the V30 smoothed out its tone a bit - and could get that creamy overdrive...

In any case, I'm so chuffed!!!!
