meatloaf. when they first hit i didn't like it. but after a while the hits dug in pretty deep.

bruce springsteen. i HATED it when it hit in the 70's. hated it in the 80's and 90's. in the past few years i've really learned to like it.

stone temple pilots. i didn't like it at first. now, after listening they were a really diverse band, more than many people realize.

oh man, i hated springsteen until i was in high school. one day, i was heading home from a friend's, very stoned and rather depressed. dancing in the dark came on the radio, and i fell in love. been a diehard springsteen devotee ever since.

Jethro Tull. My dad had an album (Benefit) with Ian Anderson front cover, one legged hippy with flute - I bypassed that album for years in favour of the more obvious 60s/70s rock. Then I heard Aqualung and was instantly hooked which sparked off a longlasting interest in prog. Still an awesome album, great backcatalogue. Helped me discover so many other great players aside from Martin Barr such as Robert Fripp. Happy Days!!

it was these songs that made me a fan

Haha, I had that happen with Kings of Leon too. I did not like them and wouldn't give them a chance. Then in the middle of a long drive someone played this song:

I freakin loved that song. I was VERY surprised when they told me it was KOL.
That song is bad ass, I think I listened to it for a month straight over the summer.

The Thermals!

First song I heard a few years ago I dont know why but it didn't even register as anything I wanted to listen to.
A friend had the new album on in the car one day and his choices of guitar tones and sparseness of playing was so awesome to me.

I now own every album and hold them in my all time top 10.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO3_ZG7w ... re=channel" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Both of these songs are on the same album and in this order back to back.
Listen to them and then learn them and be amazed at how a band can pull this off with out anyone really noticing.

This was a big moment for my song writing. Realizing that performance and tempo can make the biggest change on a song.

Awesome!

steve earle

in the late 80s and early 90s here in australia every single jukebox and every single redneck was going nuts over copperhead road.... years later i actually heard the lyrics and realised that it was a smart song, and he was a damn smart songwriter... through steve i discovered townes van zadt and guy clark and really got a taste for the 'indie' 70s singer songwriters....

I wish I was you. I would love to put Dirty on the stereo really loud for the first time and listen to 100% just take my head off. I bought that on tape the day it came out. Time flies.

Best thing is they are like four different bands. I like the older noisy stuff best but all of their stuff is quality. I hear a lot of Lou Reed influence in the older albums when I sit back and think about it.

i was in a share house first year of university - and someone brought back daydream nation - a watershed moment...

Blur.

Those Damon Albarn melody quirks finally got to me. Of course the epiphany moment was some mid-90's but i still dig them.

Within the last couple years I've developed a decent appreciation for Oasis. I used to literally HATE them, more so because of their fanbase in the US in the 90s and my punker-than-though attitude back then. I think I kind of get it now. I found a video of Paul Weller playing with one of the Gallagher guys, and figured, if it's good enough for Paul then I'm joining the club. They write some good hooks.

oasis has written some unbelievably anthemic and moving songs over the years, but i'd say 50% of their music is pedestrian and boring. but their good songs are great timeless songs
My name is Alex. I used to have an AD30HTC, but now I have an RV50 and PPC212.

The key to appreciating Oasis is to listen to their music, but don't watch their videos or performances. They always have great tone, but they always look like they should be punched in the face :D .

For me it was The Fall of Troy.

I didn't care too much for them until I heard the singing in The Dark Trail (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=250MNzctRsM. It's about 15 seconds in so be patient). Then I started listening to the music and lyrics and figured out Thomas Erak was an extremely intelligent writer and guitar player. The entire band is, really. Most people hate his voice, but I absolutely love it.

Then after marveling at his tone for however long I found out that he uses Orange amps so it turned me on to them. Now I heart Orange too ♥

Maybe a bit new for some of you talking about the 70's and 80's, but I'm quite young. Merely 19 :P
