new years day is actually my favorite U2 song and I would consider it an example of great song writing but to each their own. My point was that even if you think U2 sucks (which I clearly don't) you at least have to admit they suck in an original way which should automatically disqualify them from this list since there are so many bands that suck in unoriginal ways. IMO :D

i think you just arrived at something.

an album title "suck in an original way"

or a porn flick by the same name.

please don't take offense, as stated, its all in good spirit. and, i've had the flu and been on the road and in court for 3 days. maybe my judgment is questionable.

No worries, I like U2 bit it's not like they're the Beatles or Led Zeppelin. I doubt they're reading this forum and crying into they're giant piles of money. :D

"3 doors down" is another one that should be added to the list.

Uh oh! Now I have to disagree :D . They are way overproduced and the lyrics can be cheesy, but I still think the songs are good enough to keep them above lameness. Yes, I am fully aware that their songs are played on the same radio stations as Nickelback :( . I also am the owner of three U2 CDs, so my lameness detector is clearly malfunctioning  .

whatever spark of originality and interest they once had has been kiboshed by what they have become... specifically what Bobo has turned into

that actually makes them extra lame - and as stated, places them firmly at the tom of the lame chain :)

So if being original and good at some point and then becoming lame makes you even lamer then shouldn't Van Halen and Weezer top this list. No way is U2's newer material worse than anything Van Halen did post 1980's and Weezer what happened to them, they're first few CD's were so good.

Sorry - i know i will get caned for this - but I don't really like any Van Halen except VH1 - and that's only because some of the songs remind me of Skynyrd :D

as for weezer... I think pork n' beans and troublemaker are classic weezer songs... i like weezer - always have... but they're pretty hit and miss... kinda like led zep :)

not to mention his HIV obsession. i mean, c'mon! what's that all about? is it like that band frankie goes to hollywood, "relax, go to it, if you wanna go do it" or some crap like that.

in fact, i now nominate frankie goes to hollywood as LAME.

damnnn, van, we're gonna have to have a drink of whiskey someday and burn through some tunes.

weezer looked promising but flopped in my opinion. the lead dude [rivers something?] just couldn't seem to hold the strength needed to front a strong band.

VH1 was the bomb. see my other threads about when evh went to the 5150.
