NEW ALBUM: Ghost in a Jar recording!

Post by Neiloler » Sun Jan 23, 2011 3:16 am

Just got back from a day of recording. I won't say where we recorded per an agreement with our sound engineer who was testing out some new equipment, but we recorded through about $500k worth of equipment today. Oh it was lovely. :) Drums sounded amazing, and once we polish and put some guitar parts down, it'll be lovely.

Get excited! (all you 8 people who care haha)

Here's a lovely little shot from the studio:

Haha, thanks Bob. :)

We'll be giving this one away for free too, we love giving our music away to people, we get a kick out of giving it away to as many people as we can, and we figure it's easier for people to take free music than to desire to invest in some random band. :)

We got really lucky with this one, the studio engineer was amazing to work with, so chill, so knowledgeable, and he really enjoyed working with us, so it was just a really great day. I'm so pumped. I even used my Orange in stereo with my Carvin, I had it on the dirty channel with it set edge-of-breakup. Both Carvin and Orange were miced with some tasty little Royer ribbon mics that sounded amazing. We really got some amazing tones. I'm so excited to share this with the world. This is the best music WE'VE ever made yet. :) (haha, if I may be so bold!)

Nice dude! Are they going to master it for you? If not there's a great guy here in Chicago named Carl Saff that is very reasonable. He's done hundreds if not thousands of indie rock/punk/etc. records. For price vs quality, I'm not sure if there is anyone better. Look him up on Google or let me know and I'll send you his info. You can upload all the WAV files to him and he'll mail you the masters when they are done. It's a breeze working with him and his work is exceptional. He'll run your stuff through some cool very expensive tube gear that really pumps up the energy in the recordings. He made our self recorded stuff sound WAY better, so I'm guessing with the pro stuff you guys are doing it'll sound really great.

i've been thinking a good way to do this is to offer the music for free on bandcamp, but then setup some packages through the bandcamp site where people can buy a t-shirt, special limited release version of the album (whether a nice vinyl press or even just handmade cd-r), or other types of merch if they like yr music enough to want to support you.

Do you get to mix it at the same place?

The ribbon mic you mentioned is worth more than most people's guitar.

If you can set up a paypal deal or something along those lines I have no problem paying for good music.
