GuitarFetish pickups are pretty good, from what I know. And they are very inexpensive compared to the "boutique" ones. I put some Humbuckers that were an exact fit (and very similar looking) to the single coils that I had in my Ric 360 a while back. Sounded great and everything.

Waiting for my Sheptones to come. When they do I'll post soundclips before and after. Corky Newman and others on the forum swear by them, so I finally pull the switch and ordered some.

a one man company who have really good reputation here. Quality pickups at really good price. the guy takes the times to talks with you and define your needs. The site is in french, but really simple to figure out. Anyway, you call him and you will see ;)

The thing in common with these small shops is hand-winding and doing it right. Then they wonder why their business is growing in a down economy.

I put curtis novak jazzmaster pickups in my jazzmaster. JM-V for neck and bridge. I liked the neck, but found the bridge a little thin. I emailed him, and he offered to let me exchange the JM-V bridge for a JM-90 (p90 style jazzmaster pickup). All I had to do was pay shipping and the price difference between pickups.

That's some serious service.

The JM-90 is on its way. I'm loving the JM-V neck more and more everyday- I can't wait to get the JM-90 in it to match!

BKP are good, but very expensive in the USA! Bulldog pickups, run by a guy who used to work for BKP, and who currently works for Matamp too! are just as good, if not better, because they're slightly cheaper, and the guy will tweak them just how you want them in addition to providing several standard models.

My vote for "cheap AND really good" goes to Tonerider. Incredible tones at very cheap prices. They're made by a British ex-pat who set up out in Hong Kong.

+1 Bare Knuckle

Absolutely staggering pups, and if you give them a call they'll make you something to spec! But like you say, they're by no means cheap.

Not sure if they're a boutique pickup maker but my favorite pickups are Rio Grandes. They sound amazing and they're super versatile. You can get just about any sound you want out of them.

bg pick ups and rose pick ups have a hard core following on harmony central.

They are very reasonably priced one man business - i'll give them a go one day. You can speak to them, tell them what you want, they'll wind it for you.

Vigier uses a german pick up maker on some guitars, but cant remember which...
