Every Gibson cannot be set perfect for every player and although the High end electrics get thatr computerised fret dressing jobbie, everything else greatly benefits from a proper personalised set up. If the guitar is still new(ish) then the dealer should oblige. If not spend a few bucks and get a pro to file the slots correctly to set the strings over the first fret properly. Well worth it.
I really hope that's all it is; I'd hate to think that I got stuck with a "bad" example. The thing is, I played the guitar extensively in the shop and noticed no problems. I switched to 12's from 11's and set the neck myself and everything seems fine, except the open chords and intonation a bit up the neck. I just want to throw money at someone to make this go away.

I have always hated each Gibson acoustic I have ever held. But for some reason I still want a hummingbird.
Thunderverb 50,
modded SG, pedals, shiner bock.

I think the quality of your ears is the culprit here. Just quit having perfect pitch and all that stuff.
Seriously though, hopefully you can get it taken care of, I would agree it sounds like the problem is at the nut.

Earvana or similar. Seriously. It's a problem with every guitar.
I have had problems with Gibson nuts, though, as the typical factory job on the guitars from them is far from ready. If that doesn't fix it, look into a compensated nut.

Hated the sound of open chords on my SG. I know the nut was probably the culprit, but why should you have to pay for a new one after you've spent over a 1K on the guitar. Anyway, I just traded it for a nice amp. It sucks that you spend so much money on buying a Gibson, and you end up paying more for the name then for the Name/Quality.

Like I said before, my two J-100's are the best acoustics I have ever played...
