Bands that have jumped the shark.

Post by Bandeapart » Thu Dec 23, 2010 8:13 pm

Let's start a listing of bands that you think have jumped the shark. List when you thought they were good and when you thought they went bad.

For me, the it's the band Against Me! They used to be such a raw, political yet emotional band, now, they sound like plenty of other crap on the radio.

Here is the Against Me! I love:

you thought they jumped the shark at stop? how about that positively terrible record with that song where they yelled 'condaleezaaaaa' over and over. that stuff was awful. I actually thought the new record was an improvement over that crap.

also, they're off Sire now. they will probably continue to get worse, mark my words.

Yeah, that was pretty terrible, but I thought that album had a couple decent songs. I just thought the ultimate, "I can't stick with this any longer," was their New Wave album. They have an even newer album now and it's awful, the single "I was a teenage anarchist," seems like such a kick in the teeth to the old fans.

Kings of Leon. First record was great garage rock. Stuff after, well, it's mom U2 derived mainstream junk. I could probably name a million more bands... It happens.

It sounds to me like they are doing something to a shark in both examples  .

i don't think Against Me! really jumped the shark. (i knew they would be listed as soon as i saw the thread  ) I've never understood why everyone dislikes them. styles change, and people change--which is one reason their lyrical content is so different. still love them though

"New Wave" was (an overall) great album.
"White Crosses", however, is a "we're grown up and important now" album that tries too hard, IMHO.

Where would you say Green Day "jumped the shark"?

Might as well go ahead and get the obligatory Metallica reference out of the way. I believe that "Load" is traditionally recognized as the start of the decline.
