i think what people are saying in terms of criticism is as follows. some of what you see is indeed impressive. however, it is very limited and players of that sort know what you saw and very little more. there was a time in my life when i could replicate some of that stuff. thing was, after a few bars no one really wanted to hear it except for my 14 year old students that, unfortunately, couldn't attend the gigs.

pull them into an improv situation and they tend to fail miserably. note, i said "tend". some of these guys can actually play various types of music under a variety of circumstances, but most can't.

its really a matter of what the ear and brain can tolerate. busting loose on a solo like that is cool once in a while, but it wears very quickly on virtually any audience.

in the 80's GIT [guitar institute of technology - california] was the hot ticket for a while. they turned out cookie cutter players. they dudes could play but were very limited in scope. a familiar pattern was for them to return from the coast, show off some licks, then fizzle. it was very common.

It was obvious that the video was meant to be very short. Those guys never intended to show off everything that they can do. The video was very short and was intended to be a quick razzle dazzle.

The tone ounded horrible and it was a bunch of guitar wank that's only purpose is to compete in Wang competitions. It was also called 'I bet you can't play this'.

Next time don't be so quick to judge and put down other musicians. And it's obvious by the title of the video that it's meant to be a light-hearted episode.

I have better tone recording song ideas on to my phone with the stock sound recorder program that came with it. There's no excuse for tone that bad.

BTW, Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads are two complete examples of "guitar masturbation" to me - but then again, I dislike "guitar heros", I prefer 3 well put together chords over insane soloing any day... sorry, I grew up as a punk rocker, "kill your idols".
