Did you ever think that the reason the tone may not be up to high quality standards is due to the limitations of the recording medium that they were using? Next time don't be so quick to judge and put down other musicians. And it's obvious by the title of the video that it's meant to be a light-hearted episode.

Firstly, yes. I think Eddie Van Halen is the peak of guitarwank. Ouside of his boring, souless soloing are a bunch of cheesy pop songs.

Secondly, no. The tone is not due to recording limitations. Or are you suggesting the profesionally shot Guitar World videos from that montage were using poor microphones as well.

Also, as another comment stated, my iPhone records my guitar fine, so I doubt their camera/mic setup is too blame for the terrible, sqawking shitmess that was leaking out of their amps.

Finally, can I play this? No.
Will I ever be this technically proficient? No.
Am I jealous of others that are? No.
Are they technically advanced and at the peak of this playing style? Yes.
Do I need to appreciate this or not judge them due to this? I'll answer that with a question; Do I have to be tolerant towards bands/performers at the peak of CrunkCore or Happy Hardcore just because they are the best that a shitty style of music has produced?

I think you'll find the answer is: No.

To me it's like the triple jump at the Olympics. 'Congratulations dude - you've devoted your life to it, and now you can do that thing better than anyone else' . . . . . . .

I dont know anything about him other than the vids of him revewing guitars for frettedamerica.

The reviews are well worth watching for the entertainment even if you are not interested in the guitar.

I swear to God I've seen kids playing the intro to Sweet Child O Mine behind their back in guitar center...I need to post some video of that.

I really could watch Ron Wood or Mick Taylor or Jeff Beck or Muddy Waters hold onto whole notes and put their individual spin on them all day. But somebody pulls out the 64th notes, they'd better sprinkle them tastefully or I'm screaming "let me know when you get near a song"

Paul McCartney said a great song will sound great when played alone on an acoustic guitar.

I noticed these guys (with maybe one exception) all used a lot of distortion and a lot of compression on guitars with super light strings. Tone in is in the fingers and is more noticeable with heavier gauged strings. If these guys can plug my 175 with medium gauge strings straight into a clean Fender amp and make is sound good, then I would be impressed. If not, then they are a one trick pony in which the trick has been allowed using a very specialized, artificial circumstance.

I can play really fast, too, but my best solos are the ones with more soul and fewer notes.

I like songs with at least four chords.

I dont mind guitarists who are technically proficient, but the emotion and songwriting has to be there. Shredding is funny for about 30 seconds, but will never amount to more and at some point stops being music. No 357, i´m not jealous: i can play very fast, tap, sweep etc...but at some point i stopped caring about doing it because i grew up and realized that it desperately SUCKS. Maybe you´ll get there one day, and if not maybe we´ll see you in ´betcha cant´ video of your own for us to rip apart.
