New telecaster model?

Post by bmxbandit » Thu Dec 02, 2010 6:52 am

At guitar center earlier tonight, I spotted a new mim standard tele that I haven't seen yet. I thought it was the new blacktop hh series but it was a bit different. It had a dark red body, white pickguard that was similar to a 72 deluxe, where it covers more of the top, the pickup selector like a les paul, also up near the top, dual humbuckers, 4 amp type knobs like the HH series but not on the silver plate, they were just straight on top of the body like a les paul, and the small tele headstock as opposed to the deluxe tele/strat looking one. It looked like a good mix between the hh and the deluxe reissue but the best of both worlds, especially when it came to playability and sound. It played awesome, I'm totally sold. I've been really wanting to get a 72 reissue thinline, but this stole its thunder.

I checked GC/musicians friend, Fender's website, and google, with no results so far. I'm just heading straight there tomorrow after work. I've got 2 guitars and an amp that I'm trying to turn into one guitar and a downgraded, more suitable amp, but if I must do some trading in and lose money.. I just might, because CL isn't doing the trick for me right now and this guitar is HOT.

Well, I just came to the conclusion that it looked and had the same features almost exactly as the classic player thinline deluxe, minus hole. It was a solid body. Weeeird.

Probably the J5.

EDIT:

nm, I read the description better, not the J5... thank god.

im pretty sure they are a GC only special fun run. i have been to a GC in brooklyn and one in jersey recently and both had that guitar, a silverbusrt tele with the 6 "modern saddles" and an identical copperbust tele but with the regular 3 brass saddles. all MIM.

i noticed the saddle difference when i picked up the silver tele and though to myself "this would be perfect if only it had real saddles" and spotting the copper top.

and some tech helper type said, "Gee, Mr Atkins, that guitar sure sounds fabulous!" Chet put the guitar on it's stand and said, "Well, how does it sound now?"

That's what I was thinking too, but it would be nice if I could at least see it online for drooling purposes hah. Either way, it shall be mine. It's the best mim standard I've played out of a few so far.

There are parts companies that make the 3 saddle brass drop in replacements for the newer 6 saddle bridges. If you do enough searching they are out there but will most likely be pretty pricey. I just took an original reissue and retrofitted it to the guitar though, so if you're handy with a drill and aren't too worried about resale value you could go that route too.

I plan to be cremated with my Tele so resale was a non issue for me.

yeah, but i don't have $2k for a guitar. i'm planning a build from warmoth parts and my old strat neck but i want the old style bridge.

I found out that there are only about 135 of the candy apple red ones left between all of the stores so I had to drop some money down to hold it.

Those things are fan-freaking-tastic! Especially the Seafoam Green one.

There's a very limited run for each color so even though they're mim, they'll probably be good sellers way down the road. Plus gc has $50 off any non american fender going on.
