If you do get a MIM strat, which theres nothing wrong with as long as you like it (I have one that plays great, feels great AND sounds great) buy used and swap pickups. You will have a guitar that does all that I said, and doesn't cost much to get there. I put the tonerider city limits cet in my MIM and now I'm addicted to the neck position. It's full bodied and gorgeous. Also, read about some of the mods you can do to them. One of the first things I did was take it apart, and get the stickers out of the neck pocket! Sanding the neck some also greatly increased playability.

Let us know what you go for!

My favorite positions on a Strat are 1 and 2. To each his own. ;)

Maybe try one of those American Specials? I would think they would be better than the standards, for not much more!

My favorite positions for a Strat are in the case or in someone else's collection  .
