Sleep in Austin 9/10/10 - Amazing evening
Other than being one of the most amazing shows I've ever witnessed - it was a gear freak fest also, and massive Orange. From what we heard from a roadie, most of the gear belonged to opener Sub Oslo (interesting band, not heavy but cool and trippy). Sold out, we estimated 600-700 people. Was super crowded.
Set included all of Holy Mountain, selections from Dopesmoker, and some outtakes of the Dopesmoker sessions called Antarticus Melts and Cultivator (both amazing songs, super heavy). They also did a somewhat misguided cover of Ozzy's Over the Mountains in Sleep fashion, started out normal speed, then went super slow, interesting but the weakest moment of the night.
Tone was godly. Matt Pike played through a Rockerverb 100 and a Thunderverb 200, the TV through 2 Emperor cabs, the RV through 2 Orange cabs. Al played his signature Ric bass through a couple of Ampeg SVTs but also through a Rockerverb 50 through two Marshall 4x12s! Tone over the night was beyond incredible.
Kyle and Brian from The Sword were right behind us and we partied with them, super cool guys. They were heading to Australia the next day to tour with Metallica. We ran into John from Solitude Aeturnus and Henry from Blood of the Sun/Saint Vitus. It was like a Texas stoner/doom summit with friends from bands such as Black Hole Caravan, Magnus, Black on High, Pothead Goat, Sky Escape, Defending the Kingdom and of course Orthodox Fuzz all hanging out together at times.
Photo essay I found online from the show, not my shots, I was in the balcony:

What a killer, killer sold out show ! They easily could've sold out at least another night. Brian I think actually Matt Pike was playing out of the RV 50 stack too !!! That's 3 orange stacks. Why aren't Orange providing the backline on this tour ? Lotsa gear heads saw these shows and if this isn't orange's target audience I don't know who would be. Which brings me to the fact that it's really sickening that this thread has 0 replys on an orange forum. Bands like Sleep are the reason orange amps are able to charge high prices for their amps, period.

On about every stop on the tour, the equipment they are using (rented or borrowed from other bands) is Orange. The heavy rock community and especially doom'stoner rock musicians love Orange amps and they have almost criminimally ignored this segment of the market. Just sickening.

Sounded like an amazing show its ashame that that sort of scene is nonexistent here in central Florida.

I agree atleast we like old school stuff just like the rest of the Orange guys. I mean hell we all grew up on Sabbath/AcDC/floyd etc before the whole stoner thing. I still rock the old stuff. I wish i could have made it down to austin for that show. Stuck in old TNjojo68 wrote:What a killer, killer sold out show ! They easily could've sold out at least another night.
