Its basically a reverse volume control. I can set my volume low with the pedal on, turn it off for full volume. Same as a guitar volume control but it has a treble bleed circuit, so I wont lose the highs when its rolled off. Hey, at the very least I get a 30 day return policy if it doesn't perform. :D
interesting, i was looking around and i found an Electro-Harmonix pedal that does the same thing.

Yeah, i was interested in the Electro Harmonix pedal too.
But if it doesn't sit in an effects loop, it's never gonna be a master volume.
Just a replacement for a volume pedal or the guitar volume, depending on where you put it in your signal chain.

I'll rather stick to my trusty old TS9.
It lets me cut through in just the right way.
Plus it's buffered. Which is nice when using 9 pedals in a row.....

That sounds like a plan. I was going to suggest something similar! :)

I have an Award Session JD10 preamp pedal which I've used that way before - very successfully. Just set up your full on lead sound as normal with the pedal in bypass. Set the pedal itself with a neutral EQ (settings in the manual) and a lower output level. Then for your lower gain / cleaner / quieter sounds kick the pedal in. You'll easily find volume and gain settings on the preamp which'll let you do that.

I got the same problem with my rocker 30

get a good overdrive pedal like luis/lovepedal/xotic (these are analogic overdrive)
Put one of these in front of natural channel
You will get exactely the same as your dirty channel

then make your dirty channel with volume(more than natural) and very low gain !
put the dirty channel for soloing !

forgot to mention, my friend had a similar problem and he recently picked up a Way Huge Pork Loin and sets it to a clean boost while accentuating the higher frequencies. works like a charm.

Clean boost, Dirty boost either way it's relative. This method will work well if you have your gain knob around 2 o'clock (on my amp) or lower. Otherwise, it will just add gain and almost no volume. If someone likes their rhythm dirty sound to be real dirty, there's not much they can do on the R30 Dirty Channel for solo boost. It's just like the 100 threads about solo boost on a TT....anything you add in the front will just saturate the preamp section if your gain is set pretty high.

There's basically no difference between this pedal and rolling off your volume knob a bit. Although, the pedal is more convenient and you shouldn't lose treble a lot with the pedal.

Hopefully this works well for you. Please report back with results.

But you have a Rockerverb, don't you?
You can always put it in the effects loop.
That will work for sure.

The point is that it's pre-set and footswitchable. Finding the spot you were at on the volume knob or even a volume knob can be tricky on the fly, expecially w/ 500K pots. Like you said, if it works right the inherent change in tone resulting from turning the volume knob should be eliminated as well. I was actually contemplating this type of set up a year ago and never followed through w/ it so I'm very curious to see if it works well. Will advise.

As far as the loop on the RV50, I used to do this w/ athe Micro Amp and it worked OK. It just seemed to suck something out of it. I could never pin-point what exactly, it did cause me to stop using the Micro Amp that way though.

Could have something to do with the electronics/impedance of the micro amp.
This volume pot in a box might be much less "sensitive".
I mean; you can always try.....

You used the micro amp in reverse, as a cut? or was it used as a boost?

Ade Elmsley recommended it as a volume boost (which it does). Pretty transparent too. Lotsa guys on here have been doing it...

Clean cut though. That does change the volume. Why a couple of us have mentioned it really...
