Removing Marker From Faceplate - How I did it

Post by misterMagoo » Sun Jul 25, 2010 1:20 am

Ok, well I was using dry erase marker on my faceplate to do stupid stuff, but the one I had went, well, dry. Then I had my amp with me at work, and I asked if we had any dry erase markers, and my one coworker gave me one of his. Well I didn't really look at it, but it must have been a magic marker, because now I want to clean my faceplate, and that mark won't come off!!!

Are there any suggestions to removing this off my faceplate? I already tried alcohol on a paper towel. I feel like a real dummy.

I'm sad that you will have to throw that amp out and buy a new one now.

OR.......use this eraser.

Wish I could help, unfortunately you can't erase marker with humor. :mrgreen:

Have you tried White-Out?

Just kidding.

I have used Oops! all-purpose remover to get marker off of a M*rshall brushed aluminum faceplate, but not on a painted/powdercoated one.

Use acetone. It works great on magic marker, sharpie, etc.

Test it out first and go easy on it just to make sure you don't clean anything else up that you don't want to (though I believe it should be fine on enamel paint and such that is on Orange faceplates).

I remove sharpie all the time by rubbing a dry erase marker on top of the mark and then wiping it off. Works like a charm.

Lighter fluid and elbow grease - failing that, how about some very fine gauge wire wool or sandpaper?

Really fine wire wool - like 00000 grade or so - used very lightly should just be enough to remove the marker without scratching the faceplate - I don't see why that's such a terrible idea ;)

http://www.goof-off.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I use this stuff (takes road tar off my Jeep with no paint damage, removes sticky tape residue, ect). It's amazing. Should take magic marker right off. Available at Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart. . .
