Had some feedbackissues lately and decided to waxpot my Duncan Humbuckers. Here are some pics:
My professional doubleboiler :
Taking appart the pickup:
Lots of old wax (not enough from keep them feeding back though)
Dip 'em:
Lindy Fralin said that he waxpots his pups 2 to 15 min depending on what sound vs. feedbackresistance he is after. I tried 10 min:
Found that it helps to put some hot wax in the cover to seal everything:
Voila, ready to rock
I'll let you know how they sound, once we rehearsed full vol.
cheers

Nice work!
Re: Wax pottet my pups today
was it easy to do? i've been having feedback problems with my burstbucker 3, but i don't wanna end up breaking it trying to pot it

Pretty simple. Just be careful not to heat the wax too much, the plastic parts in the pickup could be damaged.howdy-doo wrote:was it easy to do? i've been having feedback problems with my burstbucker 3, but i don't wanna end up breaking it trying to pot it

You can but then you have to clean the cover. Actually might be easier than taking the covers off

You are probably right. Somehow I thought I have to take the cover of, next time I'll try it with the cover on

Maybe you did it better like that anyhow dude, on further research, apparently leaving the covers on can take some of the response and character away from the pickup, as usual it's probably a negligable difference though! From what i can gather the cover can actually cause microphonics as it touches the top of the bobbins, which as you injected some wax anyway won't be an issue but might be something to bare in mind for anyone else, that might be a load of rubbish too though i dunno?

Re: Wax pottet my pups today
a lot of people wac pot coverered pickups because the space between/bobbin contact creates microphonics that werent there in the first place. i have a 500T in my bridge position of my SG, which is microphonic enough due to its high output, then i covered it, and it got worse. took the cover off for now, but i intend to pot eventually.
