Might trade my AD50 for an AD140
I think I'm meeting up with a guy to possibly swap amps tonight. He wants more fuzz and I want more headroom with less fuzz. If I really like the amp i might ditch my Fender and get a reverb tank to use.
I'm going to possibly trade him my AD50 for his AD140 w/ roadcase and some cash. Any opinions?

Re: Might trade my AD50 for and AD140
Can you play it first and make sure it's really what you want?

Yeah, we are going to meet up and try them both out side by side.

I guess my only advice is only do the swap if the AD140 turns out to be just what you're looking for, otherwise sell the amp and buy something you really want.
Hope it works out for both of you! good luck!

It sounds like you're headed in the right direction. The AD140 would have to be more to your liking with all of that headroom, plus it should have better lows like a Fender. I'm curious to hear how the two amps compare to one another. The hard part might be figuring out exactly what each one is worth.

Yeah, I hope it works out. If not oh well. I don't hate the AD50. It's cool, just a little too much fuzz. I got that Plexi the other day so I should be good either way.

Something to consider with the AD140 is pulling tubes and running it at 70 watts.
Sounds like the deal you would get is slightly in your favor (based on what I think you paid for it used?) so it could end up being pretty sweet for you!

Re: Might trade my AD50 for an AD140
Is this the twin channel or single channel?
Mine is the Twin Channel:
I think the AD140 will be to your liking. I have an OR50, and love it, but I was wanting a bigger headroom amp with less fuzz as well, so I bought an AD140 on a whim.
I changed the preamps, as they seemed to make a big difference in mine, and am now really liking the amp a lot. It is pretty thick, and has good bass. The cleans are really great in my opinion. They're really full, and have a hint of sparkle..you can still break em' up though with hard dynamics, as this amp doesn't have super high headroom like a RV100, or fender, etc.....but I like my cleans being a little more hairy at times....
The distortion is definitely not as fuzzy as the OR50. The amp is much tighter as well, and seems to have a nice vintage vibe, while still being able to be more raw and indie at the same time. It just has a more versatile tone to it....
With the 140 watts, it isn't as loud as you'd expect, but that doesn't mean it isn't. What I like most about the wattage is the thickness and punch of the notes. You can definitely feel the difference over a 50 watt amp.
The amp has a beautiful tone, that is Orange, but uniquely AD140 too. It is still pretty smooth for a 140watt amp, but doesn't sacrifice in clarity and punch, and edgy bite at the same time.
It has a lot less gain than the OR50 for sure, but I feel as though the gain range is really useful all the way through the dial...Unlike a lot of other amps that can get to much gain and fart out, etc.

Yeah, make sure you're sure you'll have enough clean headroom with those 140 watts

Re: Might trade my AD50 for an AD140
I doubt this amp pushes 140w RMS. No way. Anyways I'm hopeful I like the amp. I just know if I keep the AD50 it won't get used that much. This guy plays stoner rock and wants more fuzzy gain, while I like the smooth mild gain sound that kind of soars in the upper mids. Classic punk rock rythm guitar sound basically. We'll see what happens! Thanks for the replies.

haha! It would be hard to do... I really like my Fender. I may figure out a way to utilize 3 amps in my setup... My back is going to hurt when we start playing shows.

Update, dude backed out. He can't afford the extra cash. Bummers. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Is the AD50 custom shop? I'm assuming so, since he was going to put up cash too.baytamusic wrote:Update, dude backed out. He can't afford the extra cash. Bummers. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
