Orange 4x10 GUITAR cab?

Post by ianwrecked » Mon Apr 05, 2010 4:47 pm

I've heard that they're releasing a new Orange 4x10 for guitar. Now, after being on this forum for a while, I've noticed a bunch of people that really know their stuff. And I love it. Randy Bass, if I remember correctly, spoke of the ever elusive Orange 4x10 GUITAR cab that will be coming out.

I wonder if it will be roughly the same dimensions as the PPC412 so you can stack it underneath? I need more information on this cab! This is too cool to not come out!

I've yet to see concrete specs (or a photo), but you can plan on the 4x10 guitar cab being smaller than the PPC412 by a fair measure. That's one of the major reasons to make a 4x10 cab. It will likely be the same width as the PC212-OB or smaller. My M*rshall 1965A cab is 24" x 24", which should give you a good idea of the minimum dimensions to expect from the Orange. The 1965A has Celestion G10L-35s in it and sounds very good with the TT. It would be a bit lacking in bass response for the Rocker 30 IMO (haven't tried it).

Do you mean that you would lay motionless on top of one if someone dug up your grave and put one under your corpse :D ?

They show it off a bit on the namm video. "Much smaller so u can throw it in the back of the car" also made overseas to keep the price down. And I really wouldn't be concerned with a lack of bass response at all. Ever played a bassman?

It's more of an issue with the way Orange voices some of their amps. The R30 seems to need all the help it can get from the speakers to reproduce lows (unless you crank it). The Bassman has great low end in large part due to the design of the amp rather than the speakers. They will probably use Celestions with a low-end range around 100Hz in the PPC-410(?), so they will be lacking a bit in comparison to the average 12" Celestion guitar speaker. Some amps will be able to make up the difference better than others, and it won't matter as much for amps like the TT.

This retailer appears to have info on it:

I am a bit disappointed in the 40kg weight. That would still be a chore to carry up from my basement alone.

I hate copy paste specs on sites like this. The 410 obviously doesn't use v30s. I wonder if the dimensions are even correct. (To be fair, all base production 12s are v30 not counting anniversary model, I see what they're getting at)

I'm assuming that the 10s will be the same as the new 10 tt combo? Could be wrong. The ones in the 410 are the ones that "sound like greenbacks"-ade. Forget the model number and couldn't find the video

if the dimensions are right, it would be the same width as the ppc212ob.....whicht would be a killer stack imo

the price is also not much more than the ppc212ob

does the ppc410 have an opened or closed back?

In the YouTube video, he refers to the G10 40, which must mean the G10N-40, the speaker used in the AD5. I have never heard it in person. I was hoping they would use the G10 Vintage which is more like the V30, but I gather that would be too expensive for the lower price range they seem to be targeting with this cab.

I thought the G10N-40 in the AD5 sounded good - not great. When I tried out the AD5, I also played it through a PPC412 and the difference was more noticeable than I expected. The AD5 is capable of much more bass response than the G10N-40 can handle. I'd buy one if they made a head version, preferably for less than the TT (though it would have to be made in the PRC).

i've played through the 410 as well, and it is the same size as the ppc212 open back. it stacks perfectly with that cab, but it wouldn't be as wide as the 412. it sounded good, characteristically 410, if that means anything to you. tight and punchy, but not as full as the 412. i actually liked it a lot. i'm torn between getting that or an emperor to go with my ppc212....
