Joe....as soon as I know what weekend I am going down I'll let you know. Having a pint would be great!

Mark, thank you for that! I think Rachel and I are going to try and hook up on the way to Cardiff, it will let her try a few things out and help her make a decision without having to spend any hard earned cash!
Let me know what you think about your new amp...I quite fancy attempting one of his kits!

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! It's a secret........the wife might read this!

That amp looks fabulous! That is really going to sound good.....nice , simple circuit, nothing to corrupt the tone!
Let us know how it sounds.....nice to hear about other amp builders!

Just ordered an 18W clone from valvepower (one on ebay with a proper wooden box, none of this toaster malarky)

Cool! Hope you'll enjoy it, they're great little things, very simple but fantastic tone :)

RV50? (MKI of course)

As dirty as you want without turning it all the way up. Plenty loud and a great reverb to boot. LP Custom has a 500T / ebony board right? Little more trebly than say a LP standard or SG. The RV50 will warm it up and round it out for you. All my LP's love my RV50. It seems a lot of guys here like the 'cleaner' Oranges and there is a place for those amps. They remind me of Marshall's without the harshness. If you are looking for a cleanner Orange I would think that would be the way to go. By the same token, much like a Marshall, they have to be turned way up to get to the magic. RV50 works great across the board. If I read the OP right you are looking for less clean, more dirt? Worth a try IMO...

Tango,
You have got to try a Orange Retro 50 head before you make up your mind. I've been toying with a Victoria Bassman lately but got the Retro 50 out for a gig last week and was blown away at how great the amp sounded. I did switch the V1 tube out to a 5751 and I like the overall tone better. For such a simple amp I love the different tones it produces. If the cost is a factor the Rockerverb 50 is still the most versatile amp on the planet!

AWESOME, to hear your at least gonna keep that great looking amp complete. that amp is an investment, in 20 years it might very well be worth a bit more than what you might think. like having money in the bank and something really cool to look at. if that were my amp, id put that thing in my home as decor. its color and size are fantastic to look at.

goodluck with what ever you go with.
