Rockerverb 50 DIED. HELP :(

So about 2 hours ago at band practice, i turned my orange rockerverb 50 head (with ppc212 cab) on. It sounded almost normal for about 10 seconds, then the volume started fading away until it was completely silent :( . I tried both channels, plugged the guitar in with one cable (plugging in and out of the amp didn't even make a noise), checked to make sure the cab output was right (16ohms), nothing in the effects loop, all tubes glowing. NO SOUND at all....

I've never had any problems with any amp i've ever had, but why does this have to happen to an amp that costs more than my car. uhg

So, i'm at work now, and just realized i didn't check to see if a fuse blew. Could this simply be a blown fuse? Or am i in trouble???

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Any effects in the loop?

Check the fuse with a multimeter. You should get next to 0 ohms resistance (because it acts like a wire till it gets enough current to melt the little strip of metal in there).

No effects in the loop, and no cables in the effects loop either. I wish i could go look at it right now to see if the fuse is bad.

Hey Neil, does this sound like it might be fuse related to you? The volume slowly died out, almost just like when you turn your amp off and have that kind of "fade out" to your amp (if it's tube). I just thought that if the fuse blew, that the amp would die instantly.

Yeah, that's a good point. I would think if the fuse dies, it would go out instantly, though I guess it could have been a slight fade out if the power caps had a few seconds to juice up before being "shut off" by the blowing fuse.

I'd check the fuses, and I'd also check the tubes. Do you have a spare set on hand to switch out?

the amp will fade down if the OT fuse went, just the same as if someone hit your standby switch while you were jamming, the amp will fade down, not just go dead.

if the OT fuse is no good, then replace it with the same amps fuse. if it blows again then you should have it checked, could be a bad power tube or.... ??

Thanks Neil!

Ok, so where is this OT fuse? does this stand for "output transformer"? Is it an internal fuse?

I talked to an orange rep today, and they think it is a fuse that blew internally, possibly because of a faulty power tube. It's just odd because these tubes have been doing flawless for about a year. Do they just die like this sometimes?

Yup. Why do light bulbs die suddenly? Because something burns out its last seconds. Just how it works. I'd look into replacing the tubes as Jon says, check the fuse, etc.

My rockerverb is off to Georgia for surgery :( .. Their tech said that an internal fuse blew, and that it also could have fried a transistor of something else. uhggg. See you next month rockerverb!
