I put a kill switch in my guitar...

Post by Neiloler » Tue Feb 02, 2010 7:50 am

So I found some fun switches on Sparkfun.com, and I put one of them in my guitar. You can see some of my handy work here:

Badass. I've always wanted to do that but need clear plans cuz I'm not very innovative.

Are the on offs for the kinmans?

Thanks Dan. It's fun, but I can't really test much out right now, as everyone is sleeping. I seem to be getting some switch noise, I'm not sure.

The switches are for switching in a treble bleed circuit to the volume pot, and then for bypassing the volume and tone controls completely (so it goes from selector switch to output directly) for a little more edge and boost.

Sounds cool. Sounds like it might be a grounding issue, but you are the boss when it comes to that stuff. I want some sound clips when you are done!

I think I am gonna do some fun stuff electronically to my strat when I get the chance. I am in need of some small changes in my options.

They're not used all the time, but it's nice to have them as small tone-tweaking options. We'll see how this kill button and I get along.

Neil, you go-go-gadget mad scientist, you need to convert a toilet flush handle into some sort of switch that does something cool. Maybe a "Vibraflushâ„¢" vibrato?

Haha, but then it'd look crapper-y! ;) I had an even more arcade-looking button but it was too tall for the guitar cavity, by like an inch or so, so I went with the dome button. :)

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, okay, he does have some cool songs. ;) I'm just not up to that level, and I'm kind of wondering if this kill switch isn't wired somewhat the wrong way. I believe it would be better to break the output connection using the switch instead of shorting the output to ground. We'll see.

I'll see if I can't get some video action going sometime soon.
