Largest Gig You've Played

Post by tugartheman » Wed Jan 27, 2010 7:48 pm

I just lined up a gig for a new band I'm in, it will be our first show together and its an actual stadium gig to about 5000+ people. We are the only band playing, and we are basically the house band for a gigantic fashion show. Full sound and lighting and dvd recording, the whole nine yards.

I've never played to a house this big before and its the first show I'm actually nervous to play, and I played a lot of show (but mainly to 600 or less people)

Just curious as to how big of audiences you guys have played to...

Back in 2001, I got to sing at Phillips arena in Atlanta in front of about 16,000 people. Bu as far as playing, a few times I've played for 3-5000. I've also played gigs with more people on the stage than in the crowd.

I think supporting Breed 77 was a bigger show than supporting Skindred, but for both it was around a thousand people.

Played on the Main Stage at ArtFest Louisville in front of 10k seated people, but since it's outdoors and the festival has 15 stages music was getting piped all over downtown Louisville to over 100k that were at the festival that weekend.. It was fun and I made good money..

Not sure. Played a sold out show at the Camden Underworld and then just before Xmas at the TDON 5th Anniversary weekender. Probably about 300-500 people. So no where as massive as places mentioned above!

My guitar quartet got paid $1600 total for 30mins of music. Got to stay in a 4star hotel and then played for a brunch held at one of the downtown resturants that Saturday morning. I got like $100 for that and another $100 for doing about an hours worth of solo's that Friday before we played on the main stage. All in All I made $600 for like 2 hrs worth of playing which was the most i've made(this was 1993). The experience was worth more than the money though. I used to get really nervous before playing infront of people. Not anymore..

does doing a live-to-air radio gig count? if so then - 100,000+ :)

in physical terms - a couple of hundred...

Only done the one so far. That was just under 100. Great fun, but none of my mate that where there actual watched us, which put a real downer on it, even my girlfriend who was selling tickets on the door saw me, while the rest where sat in the other room getting drunk claiming ' well you sounded good '!

We've played festivals with several thousand people and played a stadium once, which was cool since we had a skybox to watch the band we opened for. We've also played for as few as 20 or so! For some reason I get more nervous playing for 20 people!

My second show was at an ice hockey arena for a wrestling event in Baltimore. There were, what my bass player estimated to be, about 300-400 people there. I would have thought about 150-200 but I never went to the concessions area where a lot of people were so his estimate was better than mine.

Having said that... I've only played 3 shows in my life thus far.

Me too. I think that's because if it's only 20 people there's way more chance of it being a sh*t gig. In fact if there's only 20 people it's rarely not a sh*t gig. Whereas things would have to go really bad for a 100+ crowd gig to go wrong.
