I have personally found that the more knobs there are, the less satisfied I am with the tone.I like more simple designs,like an old Fender Tweed.

Try the Epiphone valve junior 5 watt amp, 1 knob great sound. simple and cant go wrong!!

Totally agree with you, I like the sound of a mesa but wouldn't have the time or the patience to try and dial it in, one of the many many cases where less is more with an amplifier.

Yeah... I think I generally agree. If you have the patience, many many controls can be helpful. Like a good parametric EQ. You can fish out all the sweet spots in a guitar tone and hoist them out, or find the bits which don't sound so good and cut them.

That being said, a good Tele into my AD30... crank the MV & gain, don't touch the EQ... love it.

I remembered an interview with one of the Boogie designers (or an internet thread, don't remember exactly); they asked why they didn't make a point-to-point anniversary version.
They responded they would have to use a server rack as an enclosure .

During my amp quest (which ended when I tried the RV50), I was tempted by the Genz Benz El Diablo. It has a crazy number of knobs and settings and a footswitch with like 5 buttons. I sounded good, but was more of a metal amp and I don't play metal. You could spend days tweaking the knobs, only to have someone else come and change them all when you weren't looking. I like the Dr. Z approach.

I haven't tried the Dr. Z but at some point before I understood amps as well as I do now, I was also enticed by the Genz Benz El Diablo. Although I wanted it for a different reason. Either way, like you when I tried the RV50 I knew immediately it was the amp for me. Unfortunately that price tag pushed me away for about 2 or 3 years until I was able to afford it.
