AD30

Post by ScumBum » Sat Dec 19, 2009 9:27 pm

I bought an AD30 Head and Orange 4x12 cab way back when they first came out , there was only the 30watt and I think 150 watt head to choose from . I liked the distortion on the 30 much better and picked it up .

Anyways it was years ago and since the AD30 was the only amp I know I'd ever need I haven't kept up with all the new models that have come out . As far as the AD30 goes how does it compare to the other models , like the rocker and tiny terror .

Also why did they stop making the AD30 , the single channel head that I have ?

The Volume knob fell off at a gig a long time ago and was wondering where do I order another ? Is it easy to fix that Knob ?

Hi mate

They only do the twin channel AD30s now, so yes, no more single channels.

Have a look on the main Orange website - there are lots of other amps, but are generally higher gain offerings. You may or may not like them depending on what you want...

Maybe its my browser, but it doesn't like look the website can actually handle orders yet... if not, just call Orange and they might be able to help.

Alternately, they sometimes turn up on eBay.

You might want to think about whether you actually want those though: they have a habit of falling off (some of mine have). Might just be easier to get a different type without grub screws which will stay on!

Good to see its a common problem and not just my amp .

I've been living without that plastic volume knob for years !

I get e-mails all the time that claim they can add three or four inches to your basket.

I'm assuming that's an American pun... doesn't really translate for us on this side of the pond!

It's referring to the spam that you get from companies saying they have a pill or whatever that will add length to a certain male body part.

So does anyone have some descriptions about the different tones of the newer orange amp models compared to my AD30 ,

I sort of guessed that. I've never heard it called a basket before...

Scumbum... have a read of the main orange pages, harmony central reviews and use the search facility here. You will uncover more opinions on the differences in tone than you can read quickly...

In a nutshell... AD = more vintage, softer, complex sound, midgain amp. Rockers = more saturated sounding, flatter response, more modern sounding amp. Higher gain.

Thanks for the summery !! I know I have to hear them all in person to get a real opinion .

I freaking love my AD30 and could not be happier , its the exact tone I've always wanted . How you described it is how I hear the tone of it as well . I should post some clips of the sound I get recording with it , its PHAT !!!
