The most influential album to me above all else is probably Surfer Rosa or Doolittle by Pixies, but I don't think anyone would necessarily guess that on first listen.

Doesn't influence my playing so much, but it's definitely one of my five favorite albums. Did you see them in NYC when they played the two 10th anniversary shows? It was awesome.

The most influential to me would be (in no particular order):

The Who - Live at Leeds
MC5 - Kick out the Jams
Pavement - Wowee Zowee
Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Built to Spill - Keep it Like a Secret
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
The Velvet Underground - ... & Nico

I'm surprised more people aren't saying "Live at Leeds" or "Live at the Isle of Wight," the guitar sounds are just massive and iconic!

nah man. I wish. I think I was in Austin at the time. There have been some good reunion shows/tours recently though. I am still waiting for ATDI and Mineral to play some reunion stuff. Mars Volta's first album was incredible, but it has been all down hill from there... unlike them, ATDI's albums got better as their career went on.

I am mad i didn't make it to the Clarity x10 tour... that would have been amazing. I did get to see the Braid reunion tour a few years back, that was a breath of fresh air at the time.

all right Taronja! nice list there...I'm especially fond of Sleep. They're a huge inspiration to me...and also: neurosis, his hero is gone, amebix, grief, eyehategod, yob, black sabbath, disembowelment, king crimson, yes, etc...

For me it would have to be Beatles HELP! and A Hard Days Night but what really got me inspired to write songs wasn't on record- it was John A.'s band The Streets from around 1978. The songwriting was just amazing and while I have no demos or recordings, I could probably play you 3/4's of the songs they did. That and Charlie Farren and Balloon....

If I had to pick one single album that influenced me more that anything it would have to be Led Zeppelin II. If I could add a few more, it would be Led Zeppelin I-V and a bit of Surfing with the Alien, and the entire Beatles catalog. Add to that Dark Side of the Moon and the Wall and there you have it.
