I personally stay away from basswood, it's just always seemed cheap (and it feels like a slightly heavier version of balsa wood...).

But as always, play the guitar first, if you dig, then ignore me and buy it. :)

I loved my Jmascis Jazzmaster when I had it but I had bills to pay and I couldn't handle the sparkle finish. Easily the best Jazzmaster I've played. LOVE the jumbo frets, makes it so playable. Not tried either of the new Sonic Youth Jazzmasters yet though. Wish I could afford to have one.

Ok so i played a 94 MIJ 62 reissue non-export and i think im gonna go with that. Its Olympic White with the Red Tort pick guard. Way better quality then the Mexican JMs and I think it was better then the J Mascis too. It will be worth more eventually and easier to get rid of if need be.

Here is a pic a of like the one i might buy but its not the same guitar im actually buying:

I dig the white body, I think it makes it look tasty, especially with the rosewood neck.
