Loving both Marshall and Orange tones?

Post by sharpant » Thu Oct 29, 2009 2:28 pm

Hey guys

As much as I love my Rockerverb 50 I always get slightly jealous when I hear that Marshall screaming lead tone.

I love the 'orange' tone. My tone is thick, cuts through and just sounds brilliant. Why is it that I feel like I'm missing out on something though? If only the rockerverb had a presence knob :P

I am not considering selling my Orange but I am considering buying a second hand Marshall JVM410H

Now my question is am I being greedy or are there others on the board that just desire that marshall tone at times?

Here is an example of what the JVM410H is capable of ( A great player too ) I understand the newer line of marshalls get a lot of criticism but the jvm sounds great to me.

Am i being silly or does anyone understand where I'm coming from?

Great players, indeed. Especially the dude playing the Hangar 18 solos. Not diggin the tone too much though. Just my 2 cents

Marshall tone, in my area, is so passe.

I like a nice old Marshall heads, and their expensive cabs are alright.

Nowhere near as thick and dark as Orange.

IMO....Orange crunch and Orange clean is much better than run of the mill Marshall.

Marshall to me is that typical 'metal' sound...and nothing else.

I'm currently in the process of dropping a couple of modded JCM800s (one being an early 80s vertical input 2204) in order to pick up a new rig. I guess the grass is always greener...

I love the dark/thick Orange tone.
But the cutting Marshall tone isa place i feel at home as well.
Same with Fender clean/crunch tones....
Don't care that much for Vox though....
But that's a personal thing. I think others sound way better through a Vox than i.
So Orange, Marshall and Fender do it for me.
Now if i just had that Marshall, my world would be complete. ;)

i love that old jcm800. but everything has never really made me happy. it has it's place for sure...just don't play a lot of fast lead stuff.

There is nothing wrong with that. My RV50 isn't going anywhere but my setup will never be complete without adding a JTM45 to the mix. I could find a tone I like in every amp out there but I have to draw the line somewhere.

The only thing I would suggest is to look at some of the other offerings from Marshall. I haven't actually played the JVM series but from what I hear it is quite the opposite of the RV50 - dull and lifeless.

Totally with you on this one. Bought a JVM410H after I already had an RV50H and I loved them both.
Unfortunately I had to sell one and because of the band I was in the Orange got the chop :( One day I'll get another one though.

people tend to be fanatical about gear and have tremendous brand loyalty...i try to stay out of that mindset. i like my orange but i see it as a tool. you use the right tools for the job. it doesn't hurt that it has a great brand vibe to it but for some people that's everything.

My name is Alex. I used to have an AD30HTC, but now I have an RV50 and PPC212.
