Quick Kick Mic question

TBO the Beta52 is not that different to the 57 head except its in a bigger case (no real reason for that 'cept people expect bass type mics to be bigger). In the old days of touring engineers would use an SM57 on the kick but would remove the transformer in the mic (it's easily saturated with high signal) the diaphram itself was quite capable. They marked it as the kick mic (as opposed to a regular SM57) and off they went.
IMHO the D112 is not as good as its predecessor the D12 but finding a good used one is very very hard. If you want to get into esoteric stuff the AT25 or better still the AE2500 dual element is the toy

or go for any regular kick drum mic and the shure beta91 together

This subject gets thrashed to death on sites used by the pros regularly but in the end, I still advocate the best sound comes from a well tuned drum and mic position, the rest is far more subtle. Oh and dont forget to keep the nut tight on the drum stool.
Here we go; three, four...
TBH I use credit cards on drum heads between the beater and the skin often to get a nice attack on the drum, and a stock 57, with a bit of EQ makes that sound pretty kosher.ESBlonde wrote:And why not.PopnFresh wrote:The D112 is built like a tank, I've never seen one broken. The drums were all SM57s except for overheads, which were AKGC414s or some such. Can't recall. Two SM57s on the kick, two SM57s on the snare.
Sorry for the low sample rate.
