JCM 600??

Post by airforce_brian » Tue May 19, 2009 7:49 pm

I've never heard of a JCM 600, but somebody is selling one on the Toronto craigslist. From the pics it looks like a valvestate, and I don't see any power valves, but the front looks like it has a standby switch on it.

Does anybody know anything about these amps?

wtf is a 600

apparently it did exist though... reviews seem pretty decent though.

From the sounds of it...sounds like the DSL series before they became the DSL?

I remember seeing a band who used a 600 years back, I've never heard good or bad about them though.

i was under the impression that it was basically a 60 watt version of a JCM 2000.

I guess if it was really good, we would have heard about them.

A guitar player who tried out for my band had one. They are combo amps. Sounded really nice in his basement with his Les Paul. Other than that I don't remember anything but I'm sure you could find out more by searching the internet for them.

hi

jcm 600 are all tube amps ( not sure if they use diode clipping in the preamp like jcm 900 ) - they were made from 1997 to 2000 if i recall.

they are very similar to jtm30/jtm60 models

they are decent amps and they arent expensive - but don't expect too much, they cant compete with plexi or jcm 800 ;] i'd say they are alternative to peavey classic and stuff like that.

I think that's a very good way to put it.

JCM600's

The JCM600 amps were introduced in 1997, superceding the JTM60's, and discontinued in 2000. Circuit wise the JCM600 amps were identical to the JTM600 amps. The styling was changed to more modern standards though.
JCM600, 60W head
JCM601, 60W 1x12" combo
JCM602, 60W 2x12" combo
JCM600 C12, 70W 1x12" 16Ω extension cabinet
JCM600 C212, 140W 2x12" 16Ω extension cabinet
JCM600 C410A, 120W 4x10" 16Ω cabinet, angled front.
JCM600 C410B, 120W 4x10" 16Ω cabinet, straight front.

These amps are fitted with 4x ECC83 (Shuguang) and 2x EL34 (Svetlana) tubes

I had 1 2000 - 2003 and thought it was horrid. But i played thru another one last month. Its really decent. 2x12. But the speakers fart a bit on low freq stuff. Id get it again if i see 1 for sale... But id build it as a head, or get some real drivers.

I've heard stories about them being subject to heat exhaustion.
They wont burst into flames, but solder joints could loosen.
Other than that i'd say they sound pretty well. Nothing really amazing, but you get a lot of bang for the buck, tonewise.

I have a JTM60 2X12 combo. Never had a lick of problems with it and it sounds very nice. I have a 2X12 extension cab for it too. It's a nice setup. Can go combo style or "half stack" if i want.
