lets start off with mentioning how AWESOME this thread is, some amazing photos, all of them, the LP is a very sexy guitar and this is some top notch porn complete with the money shot

here's my Honyburst Standard, a 1998 58' re-issue. its the bomb, them 90's pauls are some of the last good heavy ones, don't get me wrong the new Pauls play and sound awesome to, but i like the weight to it. the new ones come chambered and just feels weird to me, i like em heavy, maybe cause thats what i learned on, i had an old 75 custom for 10 years, wish i still had it. sold it to get a Fender Custom Shop "Cunetto Relic", awesome guitar, probably the best iv ever owned, but i craved the good old Paul i was used to so i sold it and got this amazing late 90's Standard, had no idea it was a re-issue till i pulled out the pups and it was written inside the pocket. NICE. i got it last year for $1300.00 thats pretty good as the 90's pauls are up there in price.

these are crappy pics i took with my phone..

Nice Les Paul Jon!

When did they start weight reducing Les Pauls? Must have been within the last few years. My 05' Les Paul std weighs 9.5 lbs! Which is wicked. Heavier guitars just feel better for me also. Wish I had some pics for you guys.
im not sure when they started the all out chambering thing, its almost a hollow guitar. iv read that threw the 80's and on they been drilling random door knob size holes in them, weight relief holes. and now they basically hollow them out in a more neat fashion.

kinda strange to call this a "Standard" ???? although they do sound great, and sustain wonderfully.

im not sure of the years and dates on this stuff thou, all i know is that its hard to find a recently built Paul with any weight to it anymore.

RE: 08 LP "Standards"

Yeah, the chambering is noticeable. IMO it's tough to really call it a solidbody guitar anymore... since, well, like 40% of the mahogany has been routed out. If you tap on the top cap on the low E side you can tell for sure that it's chambered -- but that xray shot says it all. I purchased one knowing about the chambering and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I liked that the 08 std already had dunlop straplocks on it, locking tuners(which I REALLY dig) and super smooth volume pots -- and sounded great! Still something different about it though with the chambering.

in regards to that xray shot of the chambered LP(not the weight-reduced one), it looks like it might be that new model from gibson, the dark night, dark ray, something with dark in it. it's got the p-90 at the neck and the hb at the bridge

the BFG model, another awesome guitar for little money. i was forced to sell mine cause i needed cash to go visit my family in Guatemala.

I like those guitars btw! But on my gaslist, they are positioned below a good tele (and some others).
Hey Wired, hows that black special? Have you got by any chance some more pics of it, esp. while playing would be nice!
I'm planning on making a move on one of those reissues :D. (Great looking guitar I think!)
I unfortunatley didn't have it for very long. I regret getting rid of her, it was a very very cool guitar. I ended up trading it for an SG.

Ow too bad, thanks anyway! Hope you dig the SG too!
I did, then I traded it for an SG Surpreme... hated it, then I got my Light Burst paul.

Played a Standard Plus today @ GC. 1st impression: Sounded / felt good. Tall narrow frets (like my '07 '61 RI SG's), neutrik jack, plek'd asymetrical neck, chambered body, dunlop straplocks, locking tuners. I liked the reduced weight and couldn't tell where it adversely affected tone. Neck profile was okay. Didn't care for any of the other features, particularly the jack. Frets were ok IMO but I really like the wider fat frets on my 95 better.
