i too have the classic vibe tele..

fantastic guitar..

made 2 mods...

1 straplocks

2 put some springs under the neck pickup - origionally, it had a piece of foam there, but it didnt rais high enough for my likeing!..

apart from that.. its great!..

If I were out for a new Strat, I would definately buy one of the classic vibe stratocasters !

I played one in the shop (the one with the maple neck and lake placid blue finish) and it was very well made. good craftsmanship ! flawless finish, really chunky neck, good working tuners.

And it sounded like a strat should sound !!!

Fix the the setup to your taste, maybe buy some used US-Made Pickups at eBay or somewhere else and you're done ! Maybe change the pots for better ones or the 5-way switch if theres a need to.

Compared to a fender mexico standard strat...the classic vibe out of the box is the better guitar for the money

And that's exactly why I think I'd like to get one. This would be a cheap way to get a Gilmore look. ;)

My experience has been that they sell out in days. I kept going back to try one out and three or four would come in on, say, Friday. They'd be gone Saturday afternoon.
