my super six and the twin i used to play didn't. the six is a '74, and the twin was a '72. i think. don't quote me on that, it was a friend's dad's amp. loved the sound, though. honestly, i can't see why people hate on the silverface fenders. as far as i've been with em, they're bulletproof, great souding amps.bclaire wrote:You sure? Ever try pulling on it?chinese fork tie wrote:could be an earlier silverface. i've got one with the master volume and it doesn't have the crappy pull-pot distortion. i'd check it out, but i wouldn't drop too much on it.xTRUTHOFMYYOUTHx wrote: i wouldnt even go for it. thats just me. its a big chunk of money, and if it were me, id wait till i found the right amp instead of being iffy about it.
(ha ha ha ha ha! I just read what I wrote and almost pee'd myself when I read it!)
Well, it is just a backup amp, if you're going to mostly be pushing pedals through it, then you'd never use the horrendous pull-boost thingy, so the tone would probably be more than good enough for a backup.
But no way I'd ever consider paying $700 for it. I agree with Neil... $500 or $550 at most, contingent upon whether or not it's been modded, if so, what are the mods, and how well has it been maintained.

Ok check out what he emailed me!

Jody I have three seekers that offered me $500. Being a vintage item mean's that they were the best produced in a particular years also being in a fine or good condition. If you were to pay $700 and it is worth more then that and keep it another ten years it's hard to tell what it might be worth. That's what's so vintage about it. But if you want it just to power an instrument,I would buy a Peavey. I think a Fender Twin is now going for over a $1000 and I am not sure if they are tube amps. Like I am telling other seekers, first one with an OK and the money, gets it.Thank you for you offer. B.Groft
If you really, truly want a master volume silver face twin reverb and you cant wait, I'd do it. If you just kinda want it or you're just getting it to try I'd wait on it and wait for another deal or something.onewaycpr wrote:Ok check out what he emailed me!

if it's a late 70's one, i wouldn't get it, but honestly, i've seen '72 twins go for closer to $1300. so. also honestly. love the sound of silverface twins.Joey22 wrote:If you really, truly want a master volume silver face twin reverb and you cant wait, I'd do it. Austin Vintage Guitar usually has a few silver face and occasionally a black face twin...the black faces usually run about $1500 and the early 70s silvers at about $1000...but, these are tip tip shape worked over by Eric Johnson's guitar tech.
“It's amazing what new strings and a cold beer can do for your toneâ€
That guy's explanation of "vintage" cracks me up... doesn't sound like someone I'd enjoy buying from.
However, he does offer a good suggestion on the Peavy. You could get a Peavy Classic 30 for $600 brand-spankin' new, and it would serve as an awesome backup amp, and a great amp just to have around the house for practicing, that way you wouldn't have to lug your Orange gear back and forth so much.

Why would you want that MV Twin?
They suck- there is no other word for it.
I bought a '65 BandMaster a few months ago for $750.
No rips in the tolex, replaced correct grill cloth.
It's been recapped and retubed by Dave's Sound Repair in NJ, and it sounds fantastic.
There is no comparison with a '70s Twin- the BM buries it.

Lou's got a great point: if you're not in need of an amp NOW, just save up your money till a GREAT deal comes along. Every once in a while you come across something that just screams "THIS IS TOO GOOD TO HAPPEN AGAIN!" That's when you buy. This deal, to me, doesn't scream that in the least. +1 Pass.
