Delays...HELP ME!

Post by Jared T » Wed Apr 22, 2009 5:37 am

I am looking for a delay pedal. I have no price limit but I want something that sounds good for rhythm and leads. Preferably runs of 9 volts too. You guys got suggestions? I have been looking at everything carbon copy, dd20, re20, sunny day, etc. I am open to any suggestions guys.

I didn't even read what the details of what you wrote, just buy the carbon copy and be happy. I bought it the day it came out and I'm still happy.

well if price isnt and issue you can always go for the Moog Analog delay.

I really like the deluxe memory man and SIB echodrive for analog.

Boss pedals work fine for digital as well.

i'm using an 80s ibanez ddl-10... love it, but i am really keen to try the boss rv-3 reverb/delay - shame they have skyrocketed in price on account of being a) discontinued and b)bloody good...

yeah I guess i should have been more specific, I definately want it to be an analog pedal, and possibly tap tempo but that is not a huge deal to me.

I love my Echo Park delay pedals. Line6 isn't usually my thing, but these delays are awesome and sound great.

If money is no object, eventide timefactor.

Why analogue specifically? A lot of analogue pedals are limited in some respect, or slightly noisy and often the main reason for having them is the 'warmth' of the delay sound they give. This can be mimicked by a good digital delay these days.

If you've got the money, a Moog is one option. I've got the Eventide Timefactor which is a digital delay, but is an excellent unit and you're only limited by your imagination.

If you have less money, the carbon copy has been well received, although several guys here have had reliability issues with it.

I am still using the Carbon Copy. The Analogman analog delay is also good for the money.

I have the Carbon Copy and love it for it's warmth and simplicity. I also have the TC Electronics Vintage Delay and it is awesome. They have been discontinued and are now the T-Rex Replica.

Both the Malekko 300/600/bright/dark and HBE Mimic are neat pedals w/ expression pedal outs (though only on the newest HBE).

Can't go wrong w/ a Boss DM-2 or DM-3

The Keeley-modded Ibanez was my favorite and would have kept it forever, but the original switch (which keeley converts to an oscillator/feedbacker, and was the function I used most) kept sh*tting out on me. They were great about repair/replacement, but what a drag!

In the end, I realized that I don't really like analog delay (even though I'm supposed to like it, right?) and that verb and/or tape echo are more up my alley. At present, I don't use any echo/delay/verb, so maybe my advice isn't the most valid?

I had the Keeley version as well as the original version. The original version sounded better hands down. Unfortunately, I have the same problem w/ the same switch (it is compounded by it being the on/off switch on the original).

I've got a malekko 600d and I love it. I have a boss dd6 on my bored as well and I haven't used it since. There is a huge difference in the sound of these delays (as with many pedals) but I'd try some out in a local shop if your unsure. The carbon copy is cool because the price is so low, but I use the exp pedal on my malekko all the time to go into oscillations. Proguitarshop.com has a bunch of good demos of most pedals mentioned here.
