What's your favorite 6L6 for headroom and fender cleans?

I'm getting a 4x10" amp soon I hope to fix up, and I'm looking to get some new tubes for it.

I'd like to get some good 6L6s. I had TAD 6L6GC-STR in it before, and it did wonders for it, but I'm just curious if you guys have any other 6L6s that you love.

Whilst it doesn't possess the headroom you may require, the Fender Pro Reverb would undoubtedly be my favorite.

I have been using the matched Groove Tubes in my Vibroverb. They are rated with a color code on the box for early, normal, or late distortion.I use the white / normals and they work just right.Plenty of clean headroom.I just bought some SED winged C's but haven't tried them yet.I put Svetlanas in the Bassman. They seem to be good tubes as well.

The Mesa 440STRs are pretty nice. I love the JJ's I recently put in my amp though :)

To elucidate... I mean the original Pro Reverb, not that horrid reissue.

...And what tubes do you like in that amp? I've got the amp, I'm looking for tube recommendations. :?

And those are JJ 6L6GCs? I know people say the JJs are dark, but I'm finding that some people also say my Rocker 30 is dark, and I love it and I don't find it overly "Dark", just awesome. ;)

NOS tubes... Not cheap, but they're a prudent investment. I have RCA Black Plates in my Fender. I like Mullard preamp tubes, and the Telefunkens are good as well...

I think I'll stick with current production tubes, though honestly some day I should really look into finding some good NOS tubes I could really sink my amps into.

In that case, I quite like these...

I'm glad you asked this Neil! I've been wondering the same thing for when I swap the tubes in my TRRI.

RCA are my favorites for nos. They also made tubes for FoMoCo, Magnavox, Delco, Silvertone, and many others that are RCA's, only rebranded. The I didn't like the JJ 6l6's, and the Sovtek 5881's were just ok. I'm running 2 nos Sylvania's right now. If you go with the WC, or any newproduction tube, the best money that you can spend would be for nos RCA, Amperex, or Mullard Phase inverter and preamp tubes. IMHO :P BTW I've been swapping out the rectifier tube with a box full of NOS's that I picked up.. Makes a pretty big difference...

Let's assume you are like most of us, not like Bryce, with the tube stash from Hell...

Svetlana Winged C's IMHO are the only way to go!

BTW Bryce...how much, if at all would, you be willing to let go of an excellent set of matched RCA 6L6's?

I'd really like to just buy a few pair, but that's a lot of dough to drop (and when I have tubes sitting around, it makes me itch to find an amp to put them in... )

I was thinking just the EH pres, I like EH tubes and they're cheap enough.
