2001 Les Paul Classic

Post by Secondhand Dan » Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:46 pm

Is $1000 a decent price for this guitar in excellent condition, dead stock?

Is this in the desirable year range for Les Pauls?

seems about right...they're going from 1200-1600 from what I've seen recently. I've seen them as low a 900 with some wear.

sounds like a pretty good price to me. i think 13-1400 is typical for ones in good condition. 2001 is before they went to chambering, if i understand correctly. these were the weight-relieved aka swiss cheese. do you have a chance to play it first?

Mine in my signature is a 2006 Classic. I swapped the pickups for a 57 classic plus in the bridge, and 57 classic in the neck. I love the neck on those. Great guitar.

I have 3. Oldest is a 94 and newest is 00. love them all! $1000 is a good price. Ask about the headstock....just a suggestion.

Is it a fat neck or is it thin. My tele has gotten me used to a little girth and that's what I would like to stick with. My Les Paul Special Faded has a wide thin neck and I am not a big fan.

It's I believe what they call a slim taper. It reminds me of an SG neck. I like them better than the thick necks, like on my' 96 LP Studio.

Anything specifically about the headstock I should be asking for?

It's a 1960 slim taper, and should be like your Special. Gibby necks are prone to breakage because of the headstock angle, and a great price might indicate that the headstock has been snapped off and reglued. While it wouldn't make the guitar something to completely avoid, it would explain the good price.

$1K is a GREAT price. It makes me think that either the guy really needs the money or that something weird has happened to it like a headstock break or crack. If it HAS been broken or repaired, it's still a steal because it makes it less valuable but a proper repair is stronger than the wood itself and usually results in great tone.
