Absolutely amazing, really...
This guy makes his own vacuum tube triodes. I really suggest you take the time to watch the whole 17 minute video (if you are at all interested in this sort of thing)....the guy has simply mad skills! I want to get into this myself, but by the look of some of his homemade equipment it may take a while to get it up and running!

say i were an electrical engineer at a university.
do you think there is a market for complete handbuilt amps?
like if i were to make the tubes and everything, except speakers i guess...
is there a market?

Maybe he could, all things being equal. It must just come down to the volume inside the tube and the pefection of the vacuum if all other materials are the same. I think I would trust a guy making them by hand to get more consistant results than cheap materials running down a conveyor and being assembled in masses. Also, matching them is done after the production with the tubes you have; just find ones that are similar in value and that's about it. Either way, this guy is about the most impressive hand crafter of anything I have seen.bclaire wrote:It's pretty cool but I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling that he could make a matched set of tubes...
categorically seconded.
i think it is a valid point about the difficulty in matching the valves, especially as there would be fewer resulting from the one-man effort vs. factory production, but if he could match them as closely as possible during the production stage, i think there would definitely be a market for them.
lot of hard work though, and considering the factory produced ones are very competitively priced as it is, i think it would be hard to make a profit.
but hey man, if you want to make some prototype valves and show me how they sound, by all means indulge thyself.
again, thanks for the vid, it was EPIC.

I don't think it's a hidden gold mine, but who knows? This guy still manages to sell this stuff: http://www.alessandro-products.com/main.php?p=partscustomandrew wrote:wow...

If you have a high enough price though, you only need to sell one...
Like the upgrade for the solid gold chassis in your amp: http://www.alessandro-products.com/amp-amcoon.shtml
That is pretty cool.
