I mean - I love them whammys to death...but I just bought a used Boss PS-3 pitch shifter and hooked up an expression pedal. Its now basically a Whammy that tracks notes better, does not suck as much tone at least IMO, comes with like 3 other wicked sounding delay effects, and in the end the PS-3 w/ expression pedal cost me $150. And apperently the PS-5 cops even more of the whammys sounds then the PS-3.
And apperently the PS-3 is rare and discontinued. So when you get your hands on one it just makes you feel all the more badass

also, for some really fun sounds, switch you ps-3 over to mode 7, and enjoy.

Okay so Just like an hour ago I traded a guy my PS-3 for his PS-5. The PS-5 is wicked to. No delay effects but w/e. Im pretty sure this thing does everything a Whammy does and then sum.
In certain settings you can get it to track chords great. If you set it to an octave up or octave down and get about half wet half dry sound it tracks good. It resonds to dynamics really though.
I have it before my distortion. Its before everything in my chain except my hardwire dl-8 which is used for looping.

That's funny, I was just checking these out yesterday! I tried a Vox Valvetronix w/ a built in harmonizer and I was thinking how cool it was so I started looking at pedals. Pretty cool then?

I bought it thinking I would use it for just those crazy Tom Morello esque pitch shifts with the expression pedal but I am having tons of fun with the harmonizer functions also. So yes they are pretty cool.blackcloud45 wrote:That's funny, I was just checking these out yesterday! i tried the whammy, the ps-3 and the ps-5 and the ps-5 won the day for it's dive bomb and harmoniser and vibrato effects... with a good exp pedal it is just an awesome, versatile pedal... i have mine after overdrive but before phaser and delay... at this stage

I know. I almost want to buy another so I can have two on my live pedalboard. It just does too many cool things to have just one.Van Cleef wrote:i tried the whammy, the ps-3 and the ps-5 and the ps-5 won the day for it's dive bomb and harmoniser and vibrato effects... with a good exp pedal it is just an awesome, versatile pedal... i have mine after overdrive but before phaser and delay... at this stage
How much do the whammys cost anyway? My ps-5 cost $180 and my m-audio expression pedal cost $30. And I have seen used ps-5's for like $140. A genious, bang for buck, faux whammy set up if I do say so.
