rosewood telecaster

Post by stevo2112 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 7:30 am

just thought of the all rosewood tele- body and neck- that i think i saw somewhere a while back. googled it and didn't really come up with anything (aside from the fact that apparently george harrison had one) except this:

http://www.electric-guitar-review.com/2 ... elecaster/

anyone know anything about them? weren't they reissued in the last couple of years? just custom shop, or was there a mij/mik version? seems to be nothing except 1 '70s and 1 '80s version on the bay.

thanks- please do chime in if you know anything of them.
Steve

Not seen one, but phew, they must be heavy... rosewood is pretty dense.

Would be interested if you can get your hands on one and review it...

I really want a rosewood tele. Beautiful wood. I thought I heard they were pretty bright sounding, but unique in every respect...

yeah- i saw that warmoth has rosewood bodies but they're $500, i think before finishing. that'd put the thing up over a grand, so i'd rather just buy one of the reissues if they can be had for around that much.

a little extra weight is not a problem-

Other guitar player in a previous band had a re-issue Rosewood Tele. It DID sound really nice. I didn't mind the weight but there was WAY too much finish on the neck.

The Rosewood Tele that Harrison had was one of two that Philip Kubicki made when he was at Fender.

Don't know anything about them, other than GH played one. I like the way they look, but never had the chance to play one. I'd luv to get one someday. . .

There's one on Ebay now, that the owner says was MIM in 2003.

^ That's a nice guitar. I think I saw it in Elderly when I used to live in Lansing.

Bluz, what's the red Tele? And what's the exact color, is it Dakota Red or low lighting on a dark Fiesta Red?

It is a Fender Custom shop relic Nocaster. It was a special order, the guy who had it before me ordered it with a medium C neck. The actual color in the sunlight is blood red transparent on ash. I have never seen another guitar like it anywhere. At any rate it is my favorite guitar tonewise.I was playing some jazz and old R&B tonight with the band. Just amazing clean tone.It also has the bite and guts for electric blues.MOJO, Tone, Guts ,Balz ,Magic this guitar has it in spades.Man I wish all the guitars that I own were this good.

the Rosewood tele I played in the past was actually just a rosewood veneer on the top of an alder body.... it was a MIJ one about 6 years ago that came into the shop used.

it was phenomenal.

if i understand correctly the originals were veneer too- just 2 pieces of rosewood with a thin maple layer between. could be wrong though.

The other guitarist in my band has the MIJ tele you just described.
I have only had the chance to play it once, but i was very impressed.
He seems to be favouring his 335 recently, so rarely uses the Tele anymore....might be time for some negotiating
