Postage on valves is always a little pricey, they're fragile things and thus need to be pretty well wrapped to be sent properly. 7.50 apiece doesn't sound too bad though, no idea what the going rate is but that's cheap enough!

I am going to echo something David eluded to already.
IMHO, If you want to clean up your tone in CH1...
you will need a gain drop more then the 20% of a 5751...
more then the 30% gain drop from a 12AT7.

I would suggest a 12AY7.
That is a 60% gain drop from the 12AX7 that is in their now.
Sounds like a lot of gain lost, but in amounts of volume, it isn't that much.
Plus, it will really open up your sound.
Moreover, 12AY7s tend to be more musical than 12AT7.

Either way, good luck.

<br />..and if 12AT7/ECC81 isn't good enough, go for 12AU7/ECC82 for even less gain. :)

I tried a 12AU7 on my TT by mistake, mixing it up with a 12AT7. Very low gain! Gotta get a 12AT7 and try that.

Do the preamp tubes need to be matched?
