Just figure out what the notes are and move up on the neck to find different chord shapes. Find where the notes are higher up on the neck and make your own chords (they're not your own chords, but you know what I mean). Use your ears to see what sounds best.

I think a lot of people frown upon this, but I like having one guitarist playing standard, and the other playing some alternate tuning. It makes it harder off the get-go to get in sync with one another, but once you do, you find some more interesting dynamics between the guitar sounds. You can even play the same chords but the voicings will be slightly (yet noticeably) different, for a pretty cool effect.
