Just wondering if there are any current or former professional songwriters or recording artists on here? Anyone with or had a publishing deal and/or signed to a label other than one run by themselves? Just interested... I kind of think that if you're busy doing it, you probably don't have the time or inclination to hang out of forums like this... but happy to be proved wrong!

Yeah, is it mainly hobbiests, bedroom players, cover bands, school bands or new bands just starting out? I know there's quite a few older players on the forum but I was wondering how many have been through the recording industry mill? Surely there must be some?

I've a deal with a record company....I have 3 albums out with them but they are not rock albums.
They are relaxation albums.....plenty of rocky guitar but very laid back. Not your cup of tea at all.....or anybody's on here! :D
They are all over the world. It's no big deal.
Google Brian Carter......it used to come up first page but now it's about 3 or 4....

I was more thinking of your straightforward rock/indie label or publisher rather than more niche areas. Through the standard A&R route with all the usual complications and nefarious contractual shenanigans... where you get a nice big advance and then are contractually obliged to not get any of it! :>) Anyone with agents, tour managers, publicists and all that stuff? I thought Chappers main thing was mainly doing demos etc... has his band been signed now? last I read they'd just got a new singer. Mind you, getting signed is just the start of it... so many ways for it to go wrong!

I worked full-time managing some small indie labels and had my own publishing deal with one of the smaller majors for a few years... apart from my salary, that was the only serious money I ever made in the music business. I released a three very low key, but critically well received albums, several singles and toured a lot but not at the level I'm talking about... and it was all 20 years ago. I'm talking about the next level up... proper management and an A&R person assigned from the label. Is there anyone on the forum doing that now?
